Hi, I have noticed something strange today with office 365. We seem to have a new set of licenses. We have the free E1 plan with the following:

Office 365 Education E1 for Faculty

Office Online for Education

Lync Online ‎(Plan 2)‎

SharePoint Plan 1 for EDU

Exchange Online ‎(Plan 1)‎

However today this license has appeared.

Office 365 Education for Faculty 499,998 of 500,000 licenses available

Office 365 ProPlus

Office Online for Education

SharePoint Plan 1 for EDU

Exchange Online ‎(Plan 1)‎

Lync Online ‎(Plan 2)‎

Does anyone else on the free plan have this ? The most strange thing is Office 365 ProPlus. The reason I noticed this is because when I logged in from a new pc to owa it asked me if i wanted to download office.

Just means 2 of your staff signed up for the Free Office 365 download. Gone are the times when we had to get our MS reseller to add the student and staff ProPlus licences.. now Microsoft give each tenant 500,000 copies as soon as someone try's to download.

um ok thats useful. Is there a licensing model or is it just free because of our office subscription in school ie where do the licenses come from.

It's free because Microsoft are being kinder these days, but also because you have your Office subscription for your school computers.

Last year we all had to get the student ProPlus licences added to our 365 Tenancy's by calling our suppliers, giving numbers needed and waiting for the code to add in... Microsoft have gone "Self Service" and assigned the licenses at their end to save us Admins time and worry :)

One of our tenants has now changed to that plan. Annoyingly it advises users via alerts that they can download a free copy of Office. When the end user clicks the alrt it changes the license and adds Office Pro Plus. Ok if thats what you allow however we need to find a way of only allowing it to be installed on non-college equipment.

Our other tenant hasn't been updated with is annoying. Does anyone know a way of activating this subscription on an existing E1 subscription?

Do your standard users have admin rights on there College equipment? Surely they cant install Office from a standard user account?
