Iphone 5 - battery replacement

I was just wondering if anyone had replaced an iPhone 5 battery themselves and if so where they bought the battery from?

I know ebay is littered with them but they all say OEM official whether they cost £5 or £50. Just want to avoid dud ones really.

Did mine yesterday and bought a kit off eBay. Just search for a walk though on YouTube, It's very easy to do! Takes about 2 minutes. Mine cost £8 and came with tools- noticed a huge improvement on the 4 hour battery life I had before!

Where are the batteries from though? Are they likely to explode?

Yeah I know how to do it just wanted to know what people's experiences was with the batteries once they had been replaced.

I bought two off eBay for my iPhone 4S, they were supposedly official, but weren't and were actually worse than my failing battery was, so I would say be cautionary about buying them, the cheaper end is full of bad batteries and "unofficial" parts it seems, my phone with one in was a little warmer than I wanted it to be when charging/using it so be careful, I reverted back to my original battery in the end.

 

Websites like ifixit are more reputable to source them from I think than eBay. (I don't think Amazon is much different these days either)

With all the horror stories you hear about imitation iPhone chargers, I'd be extremely cautious over the batteries too.

Yeah had mine done under the replacement programme but my other half's phone isn't covered. £65 to get apple to do it (and on my phone they didn't put the mic back in properly).

Would rather do it myself than pay them, plus nearest shop is quiet some distance away from us.

 

Yeah that would make me nervous too, bought an official charge cable the other day as fake ones worry me (and never work properly).

The hardest part is opening the screen. Forget suckers, a one sided safety razor blade in the bottom edge works a treat and leaves no marks done correctly.

I did see that site actually, was a bit unsure just because they was cheap to be honest, I always find they come off easy enough with the suction cups as long as the screen it's smashed into a thousand pieces.

I don't think it's the replacement parts that are cheap, more that anything Apple do is expensive. Apple quoted me £110 to fix the home button on my daughter's iPod touch 5th gen. The genuine ribbon cable was £6 and i completed it even with the tricky soldering job in less than an hour.

The company i linked to also don't do the play on words you find on ebay.

Yeah for the sake of how much the batteries are I will give them a shot, I liked the fact that they told you ways to improve the battery you had instead of just trying to make the sale, made them sound honest.
