Cant read recorded DVD's?

Hi all, i know i am probably having a blonde moment here but i just got myself a DVD recorder to transfer all the old legacy vids onto DVD so i dont have to keep sorting the 'video dont work' only to discover the tape was made 1893!

anyway, got myself a little samsung r149 and a load of sony DVD-R's and started recording. after the first one i tested that all was ok and it plays back ok on the samsung however, if i try and play it on any of the laptops (acer aspire, dell latituse's) the disk isn't recognised.

 

any clue's? i am wondering whether the DVD-r isn't compatable but as it didly squat about this sort of thing i thought i would ask the experts.

You probably need to find the finalise or close option in your dvd recorders menu to finish the disc for playback in other players.

Have you dvd reading software on the laptops?

Also finalize the dvds, its an option on the recorder.

we use powerdvd here and it says no disk in the drive. the recorder did do some finishing thing so i'll check that out and see whats what.

 

any ideas if it all looks ok?

I've often had issues with "home made" DVDs and laptop DVD drives - I fear it might just be One Of Those Things.

If it is an older laptop your DVD drive may not support the DVD-R disk format, you may have to try burning them to a DVD+R disk if your burner is capable. DVD+R has better error correction anyway.

i have discovered there is a manual finalising option which i hadn't done Derrrrrr!

 

that seems top have fixed it, although i will go for the DVD+R option in future - thanks SYNACK.
