I tried to get hold of install media for SIMS, but it seems to be the kind of support request that gets lost in the support system easily. If you raise a support call with Capita or your LEA you might have to keep reminding them a bit until you actually get a CD.

As a general rule, you don't need specific installation media for SIMS, (just for FMS - but let's not get into that just yet). All the installation files you'll need are in the *:\SIMS\Setups folder where * = your mapped drive for SIMS (often S).

If you're just installing it on an extra workstation then logon as admin, map your network drive so it will re-map at logon then run SIMSInst from this folder. Tick Workstation and leave the others unticked then go to settings and check the top two sections read correctly.

After that you may need to set some firewall exceptions for SIMS itself and possibly the document server but you should be alright.

I've not installed on any Vista, but I've heard you need to right click when running SIMSInst and choose to run as administrator or something??

I'm not going to talk about any other installs (ie Server changeover etc) as your LA probably have a set convention about how they install these things and I don't want to mess with that.

Hope this is some use...

I just rang them up and they sent a CD in the post, took 4 days!!!

I have no idea why you cant download it off their site!

It was a main release CD with everything on to start a sims server from scratch.

I then just used Solus to upgrade to the latest version, I think it was only a month behind.

Bingo Bongo - I'll get me a copy of that....

The Setups folder should still do it if you're waiting for a CD mind

Tried this but when i try and run SIMS Configuration Wizard it complains that the configuration files cannot be found.

Are you trying to install a brand new sims including a new Database or is it just a workstation connecting to an existing database.

I can't think that it needs to run the configuration wizard unless you are making a new db.
