Free Recording Studio Software

Hi, All.

 

I'm just wondering if anyone could help with this, I am in need to some audio recording and editing software. The music department are really tight and won't spend money and I'm wondering if anyone knows of any good open source / free software that they could use in their new recording suite.

Audacity or lmms

There's a Linux build called rosegarden. A completely configured audio studio. All the setup and patching is done for you and presented after install.

But we're in the W7 forum, so we'll stay on topic.

 

As mentioned earlier, LMMS is very good for looping and MIDI. If you want to record audio, use something else.

Audacity is good, but lacks a proper mixer if you are using multitracks.

 

The free version of MuLab is good.

Along with MuLab, Reaper is probably with best value of the commercial DAWs. It's $60 / 30 quid per licence.

Magix Music Maker Basic might be worth a look. It's free, and the link appears to be still active.
