hi anyone reccomend a good external usb hard disc eg 500GB for use with a macbook -os10 tiger. some external usb hds say they are mac compatable but some comments from users on amazon say the same drives have had to be reformatted from ntfs or fat32 using the mac utilities to work at all, and then that some of these have stopped working or corrupted the files.

Ive got a western digital 500 gb mybook pro III 500 gb external hard drive which cost me about 120 quid inc delivery , partitioned it into 2 , one fat32 partition for windows use and one HFS+ partition for my mac, and its still going strong, had it for nearly a year now.

Other then that I would probably recomend a lacie.

Just one persons opinion though :)

I know WD do an external storage device that has 2 or so hard drives and are raided.

Would be interesting to see what other peoples opinions are.

we have had 6 Lacie drives heavily used for Imaging macs. our oldest 40GB drive is now 5 years old and has installed in the region of 1000 10-15GB disk images. In that time they've worked solidly during some of the hottest summer days.

i would also go for something Bus powered with USB2.0 + Fw400 ports just so you have some flexibility if you need to use those usb ports (i would use FW400 personally)

Lacie portable drives

Not so portable :p
