Need a Home Premium OEM ISO

Need to rebuild a friends laptop. It's got a Vista Home Premium license and the recovery partition fails every time. Is there any way I can legally download an ISO? I've done many a search on Google, but all the download links have been pulled.

Yup from most torrent websites. That's still legal. It just depends on how you activate it which if done legally you're fine.

I'd check the md5 if you're downloading from a torrent.

I have an original Vista disc sat in front of me, i can rip and upload to my Dropbox if you like ? It's the 32bit version.

No, it isn't. I had a chat with some people at Microsoft last week about this.

Unless you obtain your ISO/disk from either Microsoft or an approved supplier/retailer there are now no legal third party downloads of Microsoft ISO's out there.

And torrents especially cannot be considered a reputable or reliable source!!

They even have a team in each region which looks for and deals unauthorised software distribution/downloads (not just warez).

I had to ask them due to the confusion caused by Microsoft pulling the ISO's from Digital River which was discussed a couple of weeks back.

I should have added that if you are stuck, Microsoft will replace any software discs you are licenced for, for a nominal fee.

Technically they can be if the ISOs have exactly the same checksums as the genuine ISOs from Microsoft.

 

If a single bit has been changed in the torrented ISO, the entire checksum will be different which then enables you to tell if it has been corrupted or tampered with.

My point is that members should not be recommending methods of obtaining propriatary software beyond the manufacturers authorised channels on EduGeek.

Windows Vista used to be available for public download on servers owned by Digital River, Microsoft's service provider for e-commerce. As of February 2015, these downloads have been pulled. "Free" access to the OS disk images is no longer possible.

 

Microsoft pulled the ISO's from Digital River last month.

If you can't borrow a disk/ISO, why not try Win 10? Chances are you'll be able to convert it to a full license for a nominal fee later.

Do you have any Vista disc or ISO? Not many people know that every disc actually contains all editions. To be able to choose the edition during installation, you just have to remove two lines from the setup.cfg file.
