Moodle Role Assignment

Hi All, I have set up moodle at our school and would like to know how i can allow staff to freely move around the courses and edit them without having to be enrolled on them.( Less administration) Can this be done through our LDAP e.g staff group get assigned a role.

 

Also our students are being given the student role however they are unable to enroll in any of the courses. "You can not enrol yourself in this course."

 

Any idea?

We use LDAP Enrollment along with LDAP Authentication.

This will allow users to be enrolled into the correct courses based of AD Groups.

It works really well for us. You can choose an atribute moodle will look at to decide whether they should have a teaching or student role on Moodle.

(In reverse order..)

1. If your students are getting the message "you cannot enrol yourself in this course"then check you have self enrolment enabled site wide and in each course - see https://docs.moodle.org/28/en/Self_enrolment

2. It's not possible for staff to freely move around courses and edit them without being enrolled on them unless you make them managers sitewide (which gives them extra powers and you might not want that) See https://docs.moodle.org/28/en/Manager_role

3. On the other hand, if you just want staff to be able to go in and look around other courses without being enrolled on them (but they can't edit them) then check out giving them the site wide capability https://docs.moodle.org/28/en/Capabilities/moodle/course:view
