I've just loaded up server manager on my windows 8.1 laptop for the first time in a couple of weeks to find it's all stopped working. I'm getting an error that says 'data retrieval failures ocurred' and it won't refresh and prompts me for passwords and refuses to accept a previously working domain admin account.

As I say I've not touched it for several weeks and as far as I know nothing has changed.

I've run through a couple of troubleshooting guides and nothing seems to make a difference.

I'm pretty sure it is something to do with my machine as the server managers on the servers themselves appear to work happily.

If I go to tools on my machine and try and use some of them it prompts for a username and password and refuses to accept a previously working domain admin account. Some things, like GP, AD, DHCP and DNS management work fine, other like Remote access, VAMT, and Remote desktop don't.

In the most part this is not a problem as I can manage specific things from servers, however I can only manage my directaccess settings from my machine as it sits in an OU that can read both client and server settings, the server cannot and this is where my major problem lies!
