ataylor Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 We currently use Terminal Services and they get a full desktop session with RDP, you can also set this up to just run individual applications using RD Gateway. We only ever have really about 10 staff connected at any one time and that is rare (We have about 80 staff in total)
Oaktech Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 Both... We have direct access for windows 8.1 devices and RDS for everyone else. When we go windows 10 the RDS box will be retired and I will enable RD to my desktop machine with a rule limiting it to accepting connection from my home IP adress for troubleshooting.

Am I correct in thinking 1 Nic to the DMZ and 1 Nic to the internal network? Or just 1 Nic to firewall, firewall connected to internal network (as well as firewall connected to router). Firewall will route traffic through to the internal network for authentication etc?

edutech4schools Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 Not used direct but like the fact I can update Sims on our RDS server so users do not need to worry about very slow updates at home or do not need to bring in laptops for Sims updates which is an issue with vpn.

It may not be the best, but it was already set up when I arrived, and until I can get control of my own router and DNS it's the way it's going to stay. Direct access gives you other advantages - basically the user is permanently on your network, so absolutely everything still applies, from GPO's to folder redirection to filtering rules.
