I have recently noticed that after a clean rebuild, when pulling updates down from Windows Server Update Services a lot (nearly all) Windows 7 x64 machines are totally hanging when installing one of the last updates (around number 134 usually) despite leaving the machines on all night. Switching the machine off dirty and rebooting then causes a Windows Updates Failed error with a rollback of most updates it has tried to install. Checking the logs 120 updates failed on one machine and 134 on another.

The problem is I am not sure how to identify what update its hanging on and causing the problem as it will show failed on all updates it then rolls back and not just the single update it hanged on installing that was causing the problem.

To make the issue even more bizarre some machine on rebuild pick up all updates without issue, or fail on a couple (but different updates) making it difficult to narrow down what one is causing the issue.

Does anyone know what the failing update might be, or how I can find it please?
