[ipad] IOS 8.2 How much space is required?

OK, I know I could drag my (16GB) iPad into work and install it via iTunes and cut down on the amount of spare space required, but my iPad lives at home usually and I'm not looking forwards to the annual 'app cull' just to put on an update.

So has anyone done this yet with a 16GB device with the over-the-air update package yet and did you have to free up a lot of space to do so?

Last I checked it was at least 6.9GB of free space, however I noticed that "reduced the amount of storage required to perform a software update." was in the change log for iOS 8.1.3 so it could be less than that now. My device is a 64GB one so I never really noticed

 

The reason it takes up so much space is because it saves a copy of your current configuration in case anything goes wrong during the update process, that way it can restore back to it easily.

Performed and upgrade from 8.1.3 to 8.2 today on a 16GB Air, with only 1.3GB of available storage space. After downloading and installing the update, 1GB remained.

 

I suppose it will depend on the current version of iOS your device is running.

It installed even when I had 600MB of space left on one of the iPads (16GB wifi only), upgraded from 8.1.3. I usually put it on AC and press refresh to update it. It's a shame we can't push OS updates from MDMs.
