Email Encryption with Office 365

I am after some advice and views from people on this topic!!

 

A growing number of people are asking me nowadays about encrypting email in order to send confidential and personable identifiable information in an email. All very sensible!

 

Now, when we have got an Exchange server on site, we have used the Sophos Email appliance which very nicely talks to everything and encrypts and email (depending on how you set it up) if the user just selects the confidential flag in Outlook. Again, all very sensible and it works well.

 

Now, I am moving schools to O365 for its functionality, cost ease of use etc etc but, I am wondering where we stand with encryption.

Sophos say that it is possible to still use the email appliance however it would be a case of setting a send connector in O365 to then point email back to the school's sophos box to get encrypted and then sent back out again.

Now, obviously this means that the email isn't encrypted all the way, specifically the legs between the school and O365 and then from O365 back to the school but then after that, it would be.

 

What are peoples views on this? Would this be an acceptable solution? I am interested to hear from people!!

Yer - i did know about that. Unfortunately I have only really been using O365 E1 at the moment as its free for education. You need E3 licenses for the encryption stuff!

 

It may well be an option but for now, i want to look at the existing solution.

Azure Rights Management can be purchased separately and is peanuts is you have an EES sub.
