fiza Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 (edited) I have checked through and there are some threads on getting some money for disposing of old computers but these are from a few years back and not sure if still relevant. Is it still possible to get someone to collect old IT kit and for the school to get paid some money? We are looking at refreshing 2 IT suites so around 50 machines with : Core 2 Duo 2.80Ghz, 4GB RAM and 160GB hard drives. The machines mostly work and are around 6 years old. I would prefer to give to Charity but I have been asked to find out if we can get any money for them. Edited March 17, 2015 by fiza

We use Ecosystems to collect - they did payout previously on collections a few years ago but we've given them nothing but rubbish for the past few years (if it worked we used it!)so I dont know if that still holds.

boomish Posted April 14, 2015 Posted April 14, 2015 I've been asked to clear our old collection of Core 2 Duo Dell's , they really are old battered machines. I had hoped to get some cash for them so we could buy the odd iPad but it seems maybe we wont by reading this. However if we did give them to a recycle company I am concerned that they are a reputable, so they don't end up in a third world country or somewhere kids are used to strip them of parts. Also will the hard drives really be wiped! an IT friend who works for a charity told me they smash all their old hard drives before getting rid of the hardware, it's the only way to be secure. So I wondered what part of the law does a school have to comply too? if the hard drives are removed, maybe the equipment could be sold off privately as there is no data anymore or is it still waste so needs a waste certificate?
