We did this two years ago. We pay yearly and were told we can move supplier. I think it is just that you commit to buy from Microsoft for the three years rather than the reseller.

In fairness i should also add when we got other quotes around renewal our current provider was willing to match any cheaper quotes so we have never really lost out.

You can move at anytime. You just need to fill in a "change of reseller form". Nice and simple usually :)

Absolutely. We switched to @Millgate at the end of our first year with no problems whatsoever.

Moving is a doddle. I do it almost every year. We're on our 2nd 3 year contract and I've had 4 suppliers in that time (Pugh, Dell, Dabs/BTBusiness, IDNS). Doesn't take much time and it's exactly the same software so I just pick whoever gets me the cheapest quote each year.

Caveat Emptor! - Not all suppliers offer the same level of service or have the same product knowledge, ergo the cheapest quote may not always be the best quote. That's why we switched to Millgate (who actually matched the previous price anyway!).

I see your point but I have never had an issue with any of them and MS are so laid back about it that even when I forgot to do the renewal the first year they let it slide for 3 months before letting me know I really should get it sorted.

It's the only thing I let new companies bid on for business with us. If they can manage that then they can be considered for other purchases.
