JRowley Posted March 20, 2015 Posted March 20, 2015 Yeah the highways take up alot of room, but they reduce congestion a massive amount. I've banned heavy goods in the residential areas too so I need the highway to move goods around.
featured_spectre Posted March 20, 2015 Author Posted March 20, 2015 I had a look at your save lastnight JRowley, hopefully the new patch should resolve your issues as your map looks sound.

TechMonkey Posted March 20, 2015 Posted March 20, 2015 This was a good post on Reddit about traffic from a real life traffic engineer. HOW TO TRAFFIC - Album on Imgur
CAM Posted March 20, 2015 Posted March 20, 2015 Traffic really gets hit when you put a cargo terminal down. I had to keep remodelling the traffic in my industrial district again thanks to lack of foresight and loads of trucks swarming the cargo port. I placed it right in the middle of the industrial sector. >.< This save is going much better though with residential areas being placed in mini-communities wide apart. And I have a hydro-electric dam producing 220-280Mw, seems to fluctuate and occasionally spill polluted sewage over the dam and on to crossing traffic....
JRowley Posted March 20, 2015 Posted March 20, 2015 This was a good post on Reddit about traffic from a real life traffic engineer. HOW TO TRAFFIC - Album on Imgur Good to know I have more or less the right idea!
Sunnyknight Posted March 20, 2015 Posted March 20, 2015 Pfffff Congestion. Just delete the roads and repeat! Lol
CAM Posted March 20, 2015 Posted March 20, 2015 That actually has funny results. They drive across the grass and if they are on a ramp, go flying through the air over the map.
Sunnyknight Posted March 20, 2015 Posted March 20, 2015 My new city. It boomed like crazy, but i don't know what to do with all my traffic! How do you deal with those first two lanes? So annoying...
featured_spectre Posted March 20, 2015 Author Posted March 20, 2015 first 2 lanes on my game are now highways connecting up on the map right through my city. I have no heavy traffic in suburban areas. I have only 1 red section which is in my industrial area, which is 6 laned 1 way roads, and the red section is connect back to the highway.
CAM Posted March 20, 2015 Posted March 20, 2015 It's because you only have one square! Click the globe in the bottom left, you can buy more land and build more highway connections. You can also buy the square immediately below you and mess around with the highway itself by adding a longer sliproad. Also get out of SimCity habits of seeing the border as fixed and cramming everything in tightly (especially a road that close to the border! Have a nice run or even a roundabout). You have room to breathe and the freedom to pause and rebuild stuff, use it.
featured_spectre Posted March 20, 2015 Author Posted March 20, 2015 Also, do NOT widen all roads, that leads to bad traffic management.
Joanne Posted March 20, 2015 Posted March 20, 2015 I need this game in my life... I know what I'm doing tonight...
featured_spectre Posted March 20, 2015 Author Posted March 20, 2015 Go for the deluxe version, having some iconic monuments in your city is just epic (statue of liberty on its own island...brandenburg gate at the entrace to the city
pcstru Posted March 20, 2015 Posted March 20, 2015 (edited) it's downloading! YAY! Will you return or are you now doomed to eternal ... "I could just finish that new district". Edited March 20, 2015 by pcstru
featured_spectre Posted March 20, 2015 Author Posted March 20, 2015 Just finishing that new district...lol
Sunnyknight Posted March 20, 2015 Posted March 20, 2015 Districts... another issue. I dont have any. Theyre useless!! Hydro power plant... useless!! Expanding... scary lol
pcstru Posted March 20, 2015 Posted March 20, 2015 (edited) No districts. No specialisation of industry. No local policies. Can't figure out Hydro either. Makes good tsunamis. Edited March 20, 2015 by pcstru
localzuk Posted March 20, 2015 Posted March 20, 2015 Districts... another issue. I dont have any. Theyre useless!! Useful for placing forestry zones, or farming zones etc... Hydro power plant... useless!! Place them across short, high speed rivers. I had one running at 380MW and another doing 260MW in one city.
newpersn Posted March 20, 2015 Posted March 20, 2015 is there a demo? Or have i have to cough up first.
featured_spectre Posted March 20, 2015 Author Posted March 20, 2015 I am close to building the fusion plant...once done...bam...16000mw of power and won't need any other power plant.
featured_spectre Posted March 20, 2015 Author Posted March 20, 2015 is there a demo? Or have i have to cough up first. There should be a demo on steam (not guaranteeing this though).
CAM Posted March 21, 2015 Posted March 21, 2015 @Sunnyknight: This is how I use them. - Hydro Plant: Best mid-game power IMO. Find a place where the river has high sides above the water level and build a dam. Wait for the water to back up until it reaches the top, the electricity generated will be the difference between the height of the water on one side and the height of the water on the other. Districts: - Traffic Prevention: Apply Heavy Traffic Ban to a district to prevent trucks and lorries from passing through. This reduces noise pollution and stops them from clogging up residential areas. - Tax Breaks: Apply to areas where you have accidentally allowed high noise and ground pollution to encroach on a district which devalues properties. The residents think the tax is too high because they live on top of garbage, the tax break is your way of bribing them to shut up and put up with it. Add smoking ban if you don't care too much about their happiness but want them to fill your hopsitals less. - Industrial Specialisations: On districts where you have resources, pick the district type relevant to that resource to start exploiting it. Example, if you have Oil, paint your district them select Oil Industry and click to set up oil processing plants. - Benefactor: Depending on the type of property (Low/High Commercial and Industrial) select the appropriate policy in a dedicated district to double your profits!
