I signed up for a YouTube Edu account ages ago (back when sign up worked) but never got around to using it, I've dusted it off and got it working in Lightspeed but I can't seem to add any staff accounts to the unfiltered list (http://www.youtube.com/account_school). Each one I've tried adding comes back as 'User not found' - I've tried adding them using both their YouTube account name and the email address they signed up with (some with GMail addresses and some with .sch.uk addresses) including various combinations of capitalisation, periods and age of accounts (new / long standing) without success.

There is one account I have managed to get it to find (a personal one) but everything else I've tried is coming back as not found.

Has anyone else experienced this issue/got a fix?

I know there's various rumours regarding the future of the Edu service but I would like to get it working if I can. If anyone wants to test to see if they can add some of the accounts to their Edu instance there's a couple of example accounts I can PM you the usernames and email addresses for.

Just been checking some details and I've noticed the account I can find to add is one that was created way back in 2006, one created in 2011 (when Google combined Google and YouTube accounts into a single account) cannot be found nor can ones I have just created...

Having mooched about the Google Product forums I think I've answered my own question - it's all broken and Google aren't really interested in doing anything about it. Looks like the switch to combining YouTube and Google accounts (2011) along with Google's rush to monetize high subscriber YouTube channels (you need 500+ subscribers to get a semi-legible channel name now) has knocked the whole thing on its arse.

The only options appear to be to either stick everyone, including staff, on the filtered Edu platform (non-starter as staff will go spare) or give out the login details for my old 2006 account to staff (also a non-starter as it's mine and in active use).

Indeed. Its all broken. The only way we've managed it here is to have all staff email me what videos they want to see and I add them to the admin account's playlist. A huge hassle, but it seems to work so far.

Want to avoid that, it'll just add to their perception that 'everything is blocked by Lightspeed'

We'll see if those who object to the amount of time lost through students organising their Vevo playlists outweigh those who think we should use Facebook as an educational platform (yes really) and unblock everything (because it's not like the internet has much porn on it and teenagers aren't interested in that kind of stuff anyway).

This - at least in one school. In the other school it doesn't work at all, even though it used to :(
