techie08 Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 Hi Ive just bought a Chromebook to have a mess around with but im having trouble with it connecting to the internet. It connects to the WLAN fine (gets an ip address etc from DHCP) but will not connect to the internet to finish the setup process. If i "browse as guest" the webpage is blocked. We are using the SWGFL for our ISP and have the transparent proxy enabled. Any pointers?
pickman Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 Obvious one so you might have already tried it Is the Allow proxies for shared networks tick boxed ticked? It always catches me out.
techie08 Posted March 9, 2015 Author Posted March 9, 2015 tried that but it doesn't work. My wifi is wpa2 personal with aes encryption so not sure if this is fine?
fiza Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 Have you checked the date that is coming up on the Chromebook? We had some Dell Chromebooks that just wouldn't connect to the internet. Browsing as guest eventually caused the device to update to latest build and then connection was fine.

It comes up with Webpage Blocked. On one of the tests you can run, it fails on the captive portal, even though we dont have one!

techie08 Posted March 10, 2015 Author Posted March 10, 2015 Finally managed to get it working but the "Chrome Devices" button in the Google Apps - Device Management section is greyed out. I enroled my device so was assuming this would make this active. Do i need to make more firewall changes for the Chromebook to communicate with Google Apps?

theeggmaster Posted May 15, 2015 Posted May 15, 2015 I think if you buy the devices directly from Google, they come with the licence, but they cost at least £19 more. I buy the devices and licences separately, and we use both XMA and C-Learning.
siuko Posted May 15, 2015 Posted May 15, 2015 You can either buy directly from google themselves (which I haven't done personally) Or If your chromebook supplier is a google partner they should be able to sell them to you. (I don't think there are many google partners)
