Just wondering whether anybody here carries out IT skills audits for staff members? I'm looking to create a questionnaire for staff after it was identified that they could do with some more training. The audit is designed to help work out which areas they need more help in, such as Word, PowerPoint, Excel, general file management, e-mail etc.

If anybody does have something similar would you be happy to share your form here? It would be good to see how others do this as I'm not sure where to start with the template and how granular to go.

Thanks

I once did something linked with the annual performance management cycle. Not so much a questionnaire as an opportunity for staff to raise an interest.

A sheet of options - Word, Excel, Outlook (email), SIMS, general computing (file management etc), with a series of skill levels - novice, intermediate, expert. Then a couple of examples for each option and level.

So for Word:

Novice - basic document formatting, printing and inserting images.

Intermediate - using templates, mail merge, etc

Expert - Macros .....

This gave staff an opportunity to rate themselves and suggest what further training they might want / need via their performance management feedback. HR could then see if there was a particular focus needed.

You could also link the levels to particular task / future position e.g. Excel intermediate - skills needed for making tracking spreadsheets. Ideal for those aspiring to positions involving data management.
