Building website for primary school

Hi

 

What would you suggest i use to build a primary school website?

 

Would like to minimize my tasks as much as possible as i am very busy during school hours as i am teaching.

Just want to design few logos, build the website and update it now and then.

If you have a copy of MS Office that comes with Front Page then you could use this for a basic site, i think Dream Weaver would be a bit OTT for your requirements. For creating images you could use Paint.net which is free.

Downloaded the program and seems very basic. Any other suggestions?

The Edugeek Joomla package, perhaps?

Yep a good suggestion it just seemed a bit OTT for a very basic site.

If you have access Macromedia, I would use that. OK it might take a while to get to grips with but you will gain valuable transferable skills from the experience.

I'd say give the Edugeek Joomla Package a look. I wouldn;t say it is OTT for a primary site, infact it was derived from the websites I make for primary schools.

 

One you have the package up and running you can just unpublish the features you don't want and then develop it as you need it.

Set up the website templates with Dreamweaver, buy a few copies of Contribute and get everybody else doing the work of populating the website with you authorising final copy.

 

Alternatively, have you got a learning platform / portal yet? Use that if you have.

 

You say "update it now and then" but really these days the site needs to come alive if it is going to be looked at. People need to be drawn back to it regularly for news, jokes, games, info, etc. I think the first thing to do is sit down and work out who your audience is, what it is you want to communicate to them, etc. then think about the means, and also whether you are the person to do it! There are lots of companies out there who will design a website for you and provide you with something like Contribute and training so that you (and your team) can update it regularly. Some of the primary schools I visit have the children gathering the news, jokes and other information and putting the web pages together for the teacher to publish when their happy with it.

 

It's a lot of work, but there is no point in setting up a web site if no one wants to look at it!

Notepad++ is good for basic sites... or the Edugeek Joomla Package..... or you could even use a Moodle Site.
