90 SMART Boards all no longer responding to touch in a week!

Hi everyone,

 

I am wondering if anyone can help me. I seem to be going around in circles with this.

 

All of our classrooms have a SMART Board (various models dependent on room size) and projector.

 

Over the last couple of weeks every single board across the school site seem to have developed the same fault - all of the boards respond to their pens, eraser, etc. but ignore touch, so you can not tap through a PowerPoint, etc.

 

We've recently updated the site by rebuilding our failed WSUS server so I'm sure that this is related to either a software or driver update.

 

All of our machines are Windows 7 x64 and we are running SMART 11.4.564.0 (as we have done for several years).

 

I'm 99% sure this is a tick box somewhere as a result of the Windows updates, but cannot for the life of me work it out.

 

I've tried the boards on a stand alone laptop with clean out of the box Windows 7 SP1 with no updates and SMART 11.4.564.0 and they respond to touch fine.

 

Any suggestions please?

Try turning off SMARK Ink, had a similar problem at a school this seemed to do the trick.

 

There is a conflict issue between SMART Ink and Microsoft Ink I believe...

Check what group policy settings set being applied.... Administrative Templates | Windows Components | Tablet PC | Touch Input | Turn off tablet PC touch input

 

I seem to remember that enabling this prevents touch from working on Smartboards, but the pens still work OK.

 

You can set this policy for computers and for users so you might need to check both.

The policy was set to Not Configured for both users and machines so I've changed this to disabled manually.

 

This has made the boards now respond to touch. We now have a new problem in that the boards no longer acknowledge that the pens or eraser are being used - They are identified as a pointing device.

 

Any further suggestions would be appreicated

Sorry I was misinformed by my techie (and I am away from school at the moment).

 

Changing this policy has made touch work on the boards until you use a pen. Once you have used the pen and put it back in the tray the touch is not longer accepted and the board will only respond to pen\eraser inputs.

There is a setting buried in the smart notebook program that disables touch on the smart boards. That may be worth checking out
