I'm not sure I've got this in the right forum - mods, feel free to move.

I have a brand new Dell Latitude 3330. It initially failed to PXE boot, so I flashed the BIOS. It still didn't PXE, so I made a couple of changes in BIOS, rebooted, changed back etc - in all I think I successfully changed the BIOS 3 or 4 times after flashing it, so I don't think flashing the BIOS caused the problem I am now seeing - it isn't completing POST. The bar stops about 3/4 of the way across - if I press F2 to go into BIOS, F12 to select boot device, or FN to enter diagnostic mode, I still get the same thing - a progress bar that sticks about 3/4 of the way across the screen. I've removed the battery and held down the power button to no avail. HELP!!!

You could try it with the hard drive unplugged and a different stick of memory, cpu if you have one. it does sound like a BIOS issue though, have you tried updating it again with a bootable USB stick ?

Maybe worth putting in a warranty claim if it's new. The alternative is flashing the BIOS on or off the board or replacing the BIOS chip.

It might be worth disconnecting the BIOS battery for 10 minutes or so to see that helps.

I set the BIOS originally in the same way as I set the BIOS for other Dell models, and they allowed PXE, so I'm wondering if it had an issue to start with. The fact it won't even boot into diagnostic mode makes me think it could well be a hardware issue.

We had 5 of these laptops delivered a while back and 3 out of the 5 went back as dead on arrival. One of them had the exact problem you're describing but it was after I'd spent time imaging it, so had just started encrypting the thing. I rebooted the laptop and the BIOS would just get stuck at 3/4 of the way across.

It took me two months to get Dell to take them back and refund our school.

The call is with Dell now - they are sending out an engineer on Monday. I'll give them a chance to fix it before I insist on returning it - just one chance though. It's good to know it's a common fault though - I thought I'd done something stupid

Not wanted to revive a dead post but I thought this information might be useful to someone.

Dell 3300's have a design problem that is recognised by the manufactures themselves as a fault, as such any hinge breaks on these models are replaced under dell warranty free of charge. We have NDB on our kit and they have now 'fixed' 16/37 Dell 3330 laptops.

"Here is the update:

In regards to Latitude 5520/5420(Oracle Article QNA39956) and Latitude 3330(QNA43289) we can go ahead and replace hinges under warranty as per the Oracle articles.

Latitude 5500 and Latitude E6520 do not have any known issues, still investigating.

So I’ve asked if Tech are going to contact the end user regarding same, just awaiting an update as to how the process will work.

That is frankly outstanding news. I've got 3 in the cupboard with knackered hinges! I shall call Dell on Monday!
