TomHD Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 Hello All, We have an overly complicated location structure and naming convention in RMMC (not installed by me) which I'm looking to simplify. What is my best option for changing the structure? Do I create my new location structure, rebuild and rename our machines to the new locations and then delete the old locations? Cheers, TomHD
yasir152 Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 The best option is to re-create the locations and then rebuild the computers. Alternatively if you install the Station Rename tool which comes as part of CC4Update 156a this will save you the task of rebuilding your machines. 1
TomHD Posted February 11, 2015 Author Posted February 11, 2015 Thanks @yasir152. We are still on CC4.3 so I don't think we can use the renaming tool?
Chris_ Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 The CC4 Station Renaming update (DWN4194776) works on CC4.2 and CC4.3. We have it installed on CC4.3. Create your new locations, move the PCs to the new locations that you want then rename the PCs. 1
TomHD Posted February 11, 2015 Author Posted February 11, 2015 Thanks @Chris_, I will look into installing that
bodminman Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 Don't forget to also rename the PC under PC/Laptop Properties / Build tab / Advanced / Configuration tab / Computer name: If you don't change it here too, the machine will revert back to it's old name if using right click, tasks and Rebuild. 1
TomHD Posted February 12, 2015 Author Posted February 12, 2015 Hi All, I'm looking at the DWN4194776 Article suggested by @Chris_ and it states "Requirements: Windows 7 SP1 64-bit (Professional or Enterprise) must be installed first." Does this mean that the machines I want to rename have to be using 64bit Windows? Cheers, TomHD

Cheers, TomHD No, it means you need to have the relevant updates installed on your CC4 servers - the rename tool work with 32 bit versions of the OS. There are some technical articles about installing these images if you do a quick search Edit - this is the article you need DWN2852249 Edited February 12, 2015 by truebluesteve
