Can't get BBC Bitesize site to run - can you?

This is a problem which has been irritating me for some time now. A teacher wants to use the video BBC - KS1 English - Writing the letters of vowel sounds

 

Our (ex RM - don't ask) domain machines (running IE9 but IE10 is the same) refuse to play it - they show the page but do nothing when the play button is pressed. If I turn on script debugging / error messages I get a javascript error - I think execution is just stopping here rather than playing the vid. I've played endlessly with privileged users, advanced settings, blocking all user and machine gpos, all to no avail.

 

Just to make it more irritating, my non-domain-joined laptop plays the ruddy video in IE10. I've compared all the internet settings between the two and can't find the crucial setting.

 

Any ideas / suggestions welcome - I don't want to have to distribute firefox (which I suspect will work fine) just to view one web page.

long shot but I have seen it happen

 

if they are windows 7 (or higher) pcs ive seen videos fail to play if their is no soundcard or more likely if they just arnt any speakers plugged in (so the volume control shows a red x)

Plays fine for me in Chrome on Windows 8.1. We have Chrome installed on all the machines here. Tends to fix issues with videos not playing anyway!

No issue here on Chrome on Win 7 SP1 64 bit. Doesn't work on IE 10 though (Flash 11.4)

Typical IE issue then.

 

Have found a few recently where websites are not displayed or the format is wrong in IE.

 

I have informed the staff to bounce between IE and Chrome to get results..

Works in IE 11/Chrome with Flash 16.0.0.305.

 

What version of Flash are you using?

Got any more info on java error?

I've updated flash player from 16.0.0.235 (from 14.0.0.176) - didn't sort it.

Works in IE 11/Chrome with Flash 16.0.0.305.

On a serious note, try restoring IE to defaults if you haven't already. Also, when you say ex RM, I presume you imaged them if joining to a vanilla domain? Not imaging them is a big no no!

Have you checked that HTTP 1.1 is enabled in IE?. as I know this can help iPlayer problems through proxies. Other browsers are usually OK

 

a. Open Internet Explorer.

 

b. Click on Tools, select Internet Options.

 

c. Select the Advance tab; look for the HTTP 1.1 settings.

 

d. Place a check mark on ‘Use HTTP 1.1 through Proxy connection’.

@mats I know that your setup is... (is interesting the right word?). Could there be any RM gpos still being applied to the stations?

Well, we have some progress at last. Evidence points to one of the RM user GPOs still lurking around. That'll learn me for not tidying them up. The machines have been re-imaged but it's not a new domain - not the way I'd have done it but I didn't get to choose (long story).

 

Thanks for the testing & suggestions everybody. Just the tedious job of isolating the offending gpo now.
