fairm010 Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 I am looking for a company local to Berkshire to come and quote for a complete Cat5e re-wire on our main building. Please can people post their recommendations for the work or can any of our sponsors do this? Ideally I'd like for the company to actually come out and look at the building to asses a price as its quite a unique building. Thanks
jamesreedersmith Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 why a complete rewire- why not a test of existing and upgrade/update/replace/additions as needed?
fairm010 Posted February 6, 2015 Author Posted February 6, 2015 You havent seen the state of what is in currently. If said company is able to upgrade/replace existing to a good standard then that is fine too
localzuk Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 Why local to Berkshire? Loads of great companies around that travel. These guys have the scale to do pretty much any job, and are superbly priced - Data-Path | Commercial | Education | Data Centre | Health | Industrial | Overseas | Residential - Data-Path. We had them do some work recently and would recommend them.
fiza Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 We always use Avente Ltd Prices have always been reasonable and friendly staff too. I can give you my contact there if you want a comparison quote?

forkies Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 Out of interest how much are companies quoting for this type of work? Are you only doing admin cabling or Uplinks or computer rooms too? Would be interesting to get a ballpark figure and how many cables you are getting redone if you don't mind sharing? I assume CAT5e is what you are replacing it with not CAT6 and the low smoke stuff? Just interested as we currently do all our cabling but some of it could do with redoing from a very long time ago.
fairm010 Posted February 6, 2015 Author Posted February 6, 2015 I do all my own cabling but this is too big a job for me on my own. Nobody has provided a price yet but I should have some next week. It is to cable Cat5e from the comms room back to classrooms. Approx 50 points.

forkies Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 I'd hope it's low smoke cable? You'd be surprised how many schools use standard instead of lszh.
pow Posted February 10, 2015 Posted February 10, 2015 Not fancy a bit of DIY, perhaps with some help?
fairm010 Posted February 10, 2015 Author Posted February 10, 2015 I do cable runs myself but I simply don't have the time / help needed to do this big a job.
