pooley Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 Our ageing ICT suite needs an overhaul. Now unfortunately it was designed and built only to support 20 pc's. Now we can adapt the suite to allow 30 units but they will have to be Laptops (No room for 30 monitors). So i'm looking for recommendations on Laptops, core i5 preferably or equivalent. I'd like them to be Windows 7 compliant. So I can at least image them back to Win 7 (I'm not about to inflict Win 8 on Staff unless I really have to) Thanks Si
ConnorByrne Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 Toshibas sat pro, I5 4GB DDR get them fitted with SSD that will be plenty for the staff, that's what we use and the staff love them. Not to pricey either, looking at around 400 per unit including and SSD. Have a look on Misco. Connor

Norphy Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 Are you sure that you'll be able to squeeze 30 into a room designed for 20? It's not just the size of the computers that you need to take into account, it's the size of the students as well. I think that'd be pretty uncomfortable for all of them. To answer your question, I'd suggest getting a laptop based on the Clevo W550 platform such as the Stone NT310 or VeryPC Thinkbook. We have loads of these, they are reasonably well built and support Windows 7 perfectly. So far, our students haven't managed to trash them too badly but we have sixth formers so they may be a bit kinder to them. As an aside, have you considered AIOs instead of laptops? 1

pooley Posted January 30, 2015 Author Posted January 30, 2015 Thanks guys, space isn't really an issue, the design of the current desks is just clumsy. We are a primary sdchool so there aren't that many big kids to squeeze in. I hadn't considered AIO setup, will have a look now. Thanks Si
MrPstv Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 SSD all day,8gb ram as a minimum and i5 as standard as i3's don't cut it for me. I was looking into purchasing some laptops and i wanted a tailored spec of laptop so a supplier i used contacted the manufacturer and they would happily customize the spec.(As long as your purchasing bulk)
