[sims] Recovering Assessment Templates

A member of staff has deleted an assessment template in sims.... Sorry it just up and vanished.

 

Is there any way to recover these or it is gone for good and needs rebuilding

Gone for good although the assessments will still exist.

Is this similar to the Quick Letter templates? I know those are just Word documents and they backed up alone with everything else.

If you need help remembering the result set and aspect combo, you can view recent assessment results on a student's profile under the Assessment link. But I can't think of any way to export or import backups of your templates without doing a rollback of the entire SIMS database (which you don't want to do).

 

Either way I'd severely reconsider permissions for your staff, only those who know what they are doing should have access to the Assessment Co-Ordinator group! Class Teacher should still allow sufficient permissions to enter marks in a marksheet.

Restore sims to a blank database, export the missing template(s), then import back into the live DB.

That would only work if they were pre-made templates and as those ones can't be deleted, they aren't!

I just rebuilt it yesterday, there was another fairly similar template so I just cloned it and edited the new template to fit the needs. Seems to be working fine now.

 

It seems like a little bit of an oversight not being able to back up stuff like this and a few other bits I've noticed in sims. I might put in a change request. If I do i'll post it up asking for votes lol

You can back up assessment templates vis "Routines > Data Out > Assessment" (or something like that, not in front of SIMS at the moment).

 

This will also allow you to back up aspects, grade sets etc. all as XML to be re-imported later if needed or even shared with other schools.

So you could do this on a dummy restored database as @Banjo suggested?

I'm sure i did this before.

However, i didn't think you could just delete a template willy nilly, without it firing of warnings about aspects being in use, but maybe that's something else.

You are warned in so far as it asks you to confirm deletion, but that's all. It's the aspects themselves (as well as gradesets and resultsets) that can't be deleted whilst they're in use.
