localzuk Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 They haven't dropped Flash, they've just changed to an HTML5 first policy. Flash will still work for those browsers which aren't up to date with HTML5 support.

SHimmer45 Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 Q increase in low end discrete GFX cards which chrome official supports for HTML5 decoding. my ATI HD4550 isnt supported anymore and even with the flag forcing it to be enabled there has been a big dip in performance

rich_tech Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 Thats the best IT news I have read today, no more flash updates wiping out youtube horror stories is on the horizon ! , I wouldn't shed a tear if that product stopped being used either, given it updates every 10 minutes.

I know it's been the priority of some IT people the second it was released (even though it's had a few revisions since then). I remember about 2 years ago people were complaining about not every website being HTML5 compliant......... Must be just me...

I know where you're coming from but HTML5 has been touted as the next big thing for so long that it is surprising (to me) that it has taken so long for such a big player (in terms of bandwidth consumption) to fall in line. However the support of 4K and variable bit rates may have helped with this decision.

localzuk Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 I think everyone has settled on H.264 now. All browsers support H.264. Google might still be huffing and puffing about VP8, but they seem to have lost the battle.
Garacesh Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 That's one major avenue of Flash moving over.. Now we just need NSFW sites to do the same. IMHO only once that happens can we declare 'the death of Flash' is upon us. Those are the two 'big players' for flash videos.

Dos_Box Posted January 17, 2017 Posted January 17, 2017 Bit of a thread necro here, but I had been having problems with YouTube recently across all browsers. Basically, the playback would stop after a few mins with random errors. The solution (after quite a bit of trying everything else) was to uninstall the Flash Player binary which had been lurking on my PC for quite some time. Once uninstalled all is now well I don't think I shall miss it! 1
