mrbios Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 I need a switch with a minimum of 4 x 10GbE BaseT ports, needs to be managed for vlan purposes, apart from that i'm not bothered about what it does, just need something cheap as possible. Can anyone recommend me anything that fits the description? I only need two so i can multipath my iSCSI connections for the purpose of failover.

mrbios Posted January 28, 2015 Author Posted January 28, 2015 I thought that might be the case, the cheapest thing i could find from HP was the 2920-24g which was £700 + required buying 10gb modules additionally. I don't think even looking for cheap as possible i could bring myself to use anything by netgear though (My experiences haven't been great)

I would be reticent to put netgear on a critical system - although you are dual pathing them and even netgear are unlikely to expire simultaneously. Perhaps see if someone will give you one to play with to satisfy yourself it's worth buying. Of switches that I would implicitly trust that HP was the only thing I found too.
mrbios Posted January 28, 2015 Author Posted January 28, 2015 (edited) I've actually just realised that i was going to get an 8 x 10GbE module for the 8206zl before i changed my mind and wanted to do it multipath via two separate switches....which costs around £2k, so actually getting two 2920-24g switches with 10gb modules possibly works out cheaper! think the 2920s might be the route to go down unless anything else crops up between now and april. EDIT: Damn, doesn't work out cheaper The modules are only 2 port, 4 of those would cost about £1800, and the switches are £640 each. cpjitservices Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 I believe you can get 10GBe GBICS for them.... althouh it may be the slightly higher model that does 10gb.... Look them up they are good switches.

Web prices seem to all be from places i've never heard of. EDIT: may not be the answer though, i need 10GBaseT connectors, as the devices that'd be connecting all have 10GBaseT, the juniper switches appear ot be SFP+ Edited January 28, 2015 by mrbios

I cant remember the name of the supplier that I buy Juniper kit form now.
