Papercut and Biostore integration

We've been using Papercut NG for the last 4 years and are looking at upgrading to MF, we are licensed for 2500 users so quite a large single site.

 

We'd like to reduce the number of printers and install some MFDs like the HP M680, although we are open to other suggestions. Papercut embedded onto the device is preferrable.

 

Print release is the main objective, we have a few areas with large amounts of wastage and also in turn, with fewer printers hopefully we can save some money on toner!

 

Our cashless catering system (cunninghams) uses Biostore and we wish to integrate that with papercut.

 

I've read a few vague posts but wondered if people could share more details such as the biometric hardware required, any additional software or licenses, what model MFDs they are using and if there are any drawbacks to the system?

As you are already half way there already having cashless catering some of the costs are solved but I still personally think its quite pricey for hardware and licenses.

 

I work with Sharp MFD's mainly and they are one of the better machines to work with, you need external readers as seen here, which make any machine look ugly I think.

 

If it was me, upgrade to MF but look at installing some proximity readers and get some mifare cards will be far cheaper and you won't need to fork out for the secondary server needed to get it working too.

 

Give staff said cards (maybe look to combine with ID badges or if you use existing door entry fobs use them) and give the gives a code/ID numebr (which PaperCut can generate) and get them to login with that if their usernames and passwords are too much.

 

Sharp and PaperCut are two winners I think, far better machines than HP. If costs start to come in look into the use of release terminals (licensed per terminal), you just need any old PC, sit it next to the machine/printer and use that as the release station for a network printer. We have papercut and BioStore here using Rioch MFD's. Try getting in touch with a company called ITS LTD UK as they do all the install work for the papercut / biostore sides of things. I think this was all combined into a contract with Ricoh when we renew our lease on copiers.

 

You'll end up with an MFD with an attached USB biostore terminal plus a secondary biostore server running on your print server. Each of the terminals comes with a license and you'll need a license for the secondary biostore server. We have a few niggling issues at the start working out the best way to set things up but we now have 10 MFD's on site with bio metrics in various locations set up on two virtual print queues. One for the staff and another for the sixth form (just going through a trial period now) it has reduced some of our paper wastage but we still have a number of staff who print direct to the device and then forget to collect. Only way of stopping this is block direct device printing which I'm hoping they will come round to.
