I need (yet another) PSU

so after purchasing a brand new graphics card (R9 290)

getting it home finding out my PSU was not powerful enough.

go to my local independent PC store, to be told yep this 750w supply will be powerful enough

spend another hour stripping down installing new PSU, Drivers etc...

only to find after 10-15 mins of play the PC would restart.

On sunday I turn on BSOD (Win 7 not on by default)

I want to confirm the card is not an issue so I run 3d benchmark...15 mins in to the test blank screen nothing, No power completely dead, so now I need to get another PSU any one got any recommendations and a good price?

Whu? A decent 750W PSU should be more than capable of powering that rig, and many well beyond that. Just make absolutely sure it's a decent brand - the power claims of cheapo ones aren't worth the label they're written on.

750w should be ample power unless you have a dozen drives in there...

 

Could be a driver issue. I kept getting BSOD with a 270X, had it replaced twice then gave up and got a GTX 760, haven't had a problem since.

 

Try the GPU in a different machine if you can.

 

Also, don't skimp on PSU; cheap brands often can't actually deliver the power they claim to and are often lacking the protective circuitry to prevent your mobo getting fried in the event of a surge. Jonny Guru won't steer you wrong on PSU choice.

the brand was the only one the guy had in the shop!

weird about drivers as I could play elite and titanfall for hours, but Ryse SOR and Assassins creed black flag only about 10 mins.

I also couldn't charge my headset (wireless usb) so I think its PSU,

Guy in shop said he would give full refund just got to go shopping again

I always use this tool when getting a new PSU, And what ever it calculator the power at I times it by 2. always buy an 80plus gold.

 

Have you uninstalled all the old drives of your old GPU?

Good - the PSU is *the* most important part of the whole PC. Never, ever, ever skimp on quality and ONLY buy a decent, reputable brand. 600w is more than enough for what you have.

Also worth noting you may need to update the bios of your PC; I've seen a few Gigabyte motherboards that don't like powerful graphics cards and have needed a bios update to fix compatibility.

Thanks guys for all the input!

I went and bought:

Corsair 850

It is really quiet compared to both my original supply and the one that blew up!

managed to run a whole 3d benchmark (Ice Storm 137506 score) with out it blowing up this time! (although the Graphics card got LOUD!)

Aye, the 290's aren't quiet! Some non reference coolers are a bit better but not by much.
