Raspberry PIs

anyone know of companies doing anything raspberry pi related? We have just received a delivery of 6 b+ models and no one knows what to do with them (i didnt buy them!)

Have you got a computer club or similar? Something I tried was to suggest to the computer club that they all come up with ideas for what they'd do with a Raspberry Pi and the best ones would be given a Raspberry Pi (I had a few spare due to buying more than I needed for a project of my own) and some guidance on completing the project. Obviously not an idea with school owned Pis but you can still use the basic idea, perhaps have a few classes who are interested and buy more SD cards than you'd normally need and get them to come up with ideas and work through them.

 

This does depend on what ICT/Computing course your school is running. I know the OCR Computing course has an assessment for Linux that suggests using Pis to complete it (we went with some spare laptops running debian since we don't have Pis) and this could be a way to ease them into that.

Other then giving them away as prizes for best attendance or whatever - Pick up a few copies of Adventures in Raspberry PI - Adventures in Raspberry Pi - Pimoroni. It's pretty good. I've found some of the material is dated, but it's pretty much for the better.

There are loads of fun, err, educational pi projects out there. Webcam stuff, controlling things through web interfaces, robotic vehicles, (remote) sensing, control stuff. I'm looking at internet of things stuff for one of my primaries.

Also from the same series, Adventures in Minecraft is really good. I run a code club and this has been the basis of all our projects so far, teaches python via the Minecraft API, has been very popular here (once they get past the fact it's a limited version of Minecraft that is!)

Use them with a camera to do timelapse of a day at school.

The Mag Pi Magazine is a free resource: The MagPi. Our robotics teachers read this magazine for projects and information for the Pi.

I was recommended a Pi by a few of the teachers as I was interested in how they work. Got one for Christmas, got it all setup and running but at the moment don't have the time to plan a project yet. Perhaps when I get some holiday I'll do some more work with it.

That's good to know. I just bought a couple, one I've hacked to use with FreeTrack/OpenTrack, the other I was going to try with TrackNoIR but I suspect it won't work nearly as well as IR tracking so could be pressed into use on the my Spy Pi.
