Joanne Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 Just logging this incase anyone else comes across the same issue. When preparing iPad in configurator, it fails with the error: "Unable to download iOS #" iOS Devices | Enterprise iOS Download the iOS file from the above link for your particular device and copy it to the following folder on the mac: ~\Library\Containers\com.apple.configurator\Data\Library\Caches\com.apple.configurator\Firmware Restart configurator. LOW AND BEHOLD... iOS will now install.
Boredguy Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 Alas it does not always work. We tried it when we had the same issue the other week, and in the end the only way we could get our iPads to update to 8.1.2 was via iTunes and a PC =(
Joanne Posted January 20, 2015 Author Posted January 20, 2015 It seems to be working so far for me. I've got some which say "Unable to check OS" but that's because find my iPad is turned on
Joanne Posted January 28, 2015 Author Posted January 28, 2015 Can't believe there is a new iOS out already... 8.1.3 DAMNIT.
Jehanzeb Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 Downloading it now. I had this issue few days ago and didn't know where to download it manually. This thread should be a stickie. Thank you for sharing it. Regards J

Hi Jo, The reason this is happening when downloading iOS8.1.2 via Configurator is that there are changes to some of the restrictions and policies that can be applied to iPads. Configurator is trying to apply the update to the iPads with an existing profile on them and this will cause a problem with the initial profile as there are changes to this in iOS8.1.2 hence the download gives you and error. Generally downloading iOS Updates using the separate link is always a better solution as you don't need iPads connected to start doing this.
