Apple's forthcoming 12" MacBook Air is rumoured to have a single USB Type-C port that used for literally everything inc. charging and connecting monitors (since USB 3.1 also supports DisplayPort over the same connector).

Haven't Apple been trying to implement this for a while now with their chargers?

Do you mean Thunderbolt rather than MagSafe?

The new USB C cable - no more 2nd attempts at getting a usb cable into the socket

It's going to be tricky finding the port on the back of your motherboard in the dark. It's tiny! :)

A usb c hub or cable that goes on your desk?

A USB 3.1 Type-C hub would solve that problem, at least until manufacturers start adding Type-C connectors to cases and monitors.

You won't be able to buy Type-C to Type-C extension cables though. They aren't allowed according to the official spec (although that probably won't stop some Chinese companies from making them).
