Apple's forthcoming 12" MacBook Air is rumoured to have a single USB Type-C port that used for literally everything inc. charging and connecting monitors (since USB 3.1 also supports DisplayPort over the same connector).

Do you mean Thunderbolt rather than MagSafe?

It's going to be tricky finding the port on the back of your motherboard in the dark. It's tiny!

A USB 3.1 Type-C hub would solve that problem, at least until manufacturers start adding Type-C connectors to cases and monitors.

 

You won't be able to buy Type-C to Type-C extension cables though. They aren't allowed according to the official spec (although that probably won't stop some Chinese companies from making them).
