mikkydoos Posted January 8, 2015 Posted January 8, 2015 Hi all, I know this may have been asked a million times but I need a quick solution/guidance for this.... I have about 20 Ipads here where the Apple ID's are grouped.... e.g. Dept 1 has 6 with Id ***@****, Dept 2 has 10 with Id ***@**** They all sync photo's etc together - a problem. I take it that I have to set up a unique ID on each of them, which I cant now do because we don't have a debit/credit card which is required (No, Im not using mine!) a) Can I change the Id's with Apple configurator without a credit card ? b) Can I push apps bought via VPP to them and lock them down with this set up ? c) Can I still sync apps/photos etc between groups of them with unique Id's ? I have a boat load of them arriving in a month and need to manage them better. I've just taken delivery of a Mac mini to control them with (still in the box). Have I got enough to do it? Cheers all ; ) P.S... Please don't suggest 3rd party MDM solutions 'cos I still haven't had my budget approved for this year
Quackers Posted January 8, 2015 Posted January 8, 2015 If you create the Apple ID on the iPad via the wizard and goto the Appstore and try to download a free app the option of 'None' is available when adding the billing/credit card info. This won't work if you create the Apple ID via a web browser, the none option will not be available.

It's complete poppycock that you can't create a free Apple ID with a web browser.... You need to start the process by picking a free app on the app store, follow the instructions in the link below... Create an iTunes Store, App Store, or iBooks Store account without a credit card or other payment method - Apple Support Apple ID's having nothing to do with whether you don't or do have a credit card, that is unless a card is attached to that account. If you are using a single Apple ID with a credit card attached to purchase apps on the iPads, then downloading those apps once signed in to another iPad with the same ID you are breaking iTunes licensing terms. What you should be doing is talking to your reseller about the following; Creation of non credit card accounts (for bulk creation of these you need to speak to your reseller about whitelisting your I.P.) Signing up for VPP (You can buy VPP credit from Apple Education Solution Experts so no credit card required) Using a FREE MDM like Meraki Setting up Managed Distribution to push out apps across your network You should also look at far better file sharing solution like Foldr (see below) Welcome | Foldr - Free Your Files If your reseller doesn't know anything about these subjects to help you, then to be frank you I wouldn't go near them for iPads in the future. 1
mikkydoos Posted January 9, 2015 Author Posted January 9, 2015 Cheers @Brimstone You're right m8. Set Meraki up yesterday. I'm pretty sure I need to 'Apple Configurator' them aswell. Looking at that today. Whats OSX Server like to use. Is it worth buying ? Done VPP (after .. how long) None of my suppliers are DEP registered yet. Can you answer this plz... I'm gonna set them up with unique Id's. Can I group them in Meraki/Apple Configurator so they sync just in those groups ?? Cheers again

win Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 I'm a relative newbie here as well but i got it sorted with just 2 apple id's. 1 for VPP (add credit card to this one) 1 for itunes Apple configurator only, no mdm yet but may think about it in future if needed. I created a master ipad (teacher), then restored the image to the other ipads (students).

Whilst correct that going to appleid.apple.com to create the ID will not give you the option of none, no one who knows anything about the creation of Apple ID's for iPads will use this method to create them.
