ajbritton Posted January 5, 2006 Posted January 5, 2006 I'm to try to impress upon every software supplier the importance of producing good MSI based installers, which can run properley using Group Policy. If all other EduGeeks would do this too, it would make me very happy. Or am I totally off the mark with this one???
StewartKnight Posted January 5, 2006 Posted January 5, 2006 I agree, even if you don't yet use MSI, it's good to know that it's there if you need it.
tosca925 Posted January 5, 2006 Posted January 5, 2006 Totally Agree. Don't know wether i will get down to Bett but if i do I'll definatley help you out.
ChrisH Posted January 5, 2006 Posted January 5, 2006 I also agree with that. The other annoying thing though is some use MSI but they use an exe to boot it off. Some of these you can get away with going directly from the MSI but others insist on running from the exe and the little tweak you can do doesnt always work...
ajbritton Posted January 5, 2006 Author Posted January 5, 2006 The other point I would make is that setup authors should not use the InstallShield Script technologies. These are a nightmare for GPO deployment.
drjturner Posted January 5, 2006 Posted January 5, 2006 Hi As said in another thread Promethean knows the importance of this and are currently developing one for all our software. I think that developers who do not come from a network or server background just have single installation in mind but as schools have lots of computers it takes time. I'll be on the stand at bett V60 if anyone wants a chat.
MkII Posted January 5, 2006 Posted January 5, 2006 I say it all the time so I guess that makes me on board!
