Apologies and thanks to everyone and especial @Sunnyknight who will be muttering obscenities about now. My plan is to Play the PS4 for a while and start saving from scratch for a PC. YOLO - and all that jazz. That's probably what I'll do xP Still paying off moving house costs + buying my OnePlus, but should be nearly done now. So I'll likely buy a new build on credit in 6-12 months, though truth be told might as well save up cash instead. Doesn't really matter all too much.

I want a console and a PC...that's a lie, i want a console cus i really want to play 2 particular games! I'm saving my pennies and trying to decide the best way go about starting on a PC because there's no way i'm going to be able to build what i want straight away...

I think you made the right decision, the difficulty with buying a gaming pc over a period of time is that technology will have moved on by the time you get around to finishing it, so you will find some parts of your pc are somewhat behind others, then your replacement strategy becomes an issue. Plus with the recent release of DDR4 ram you could find yourself in a position where you may have bought a motherboard that doesn't support DDR4, but find yourself wanting DDR4 in the future. Which would mean a new motherboard. So it's a bit of an awkward time to start a staggered build. Edited January 8, 2015 by JRowley

LincolnE Posted January 8, 2015 Posted January 8, 2015 (edited) Bad news for my PC build this morning as our fence came down during the night. I reckon it's going to cost £400+ to get fixed. Which leaves me with £300 ish. I have a few options. Go down the PS4 / Xbox1 path or start to build a PC rig but in the knowledge it will not be running any time soon. As you can guess I am not feeling very happy today. I wouldn't advise buying stuff for a PC rig if it's not going to be complete, myself. Warrenties and such are always useful when putting everything together and prices will have dropped by the time you get everything together for it. sonofsanta Posted January 8, 2015 Posted January 8, 2015 Maybe it's because I'm crap with PS controllers (seriously, how can anyone aim with those sticks? They're so soft and mushy and in the wrong place and urgh) but I'm not really enjoying the game bit of Last of Us. The story introduction is brutal, and I'll keep playing for the story, but the game itself seems a pretty standard 3rd person cover shooter with minimal crafting shoehorned in. I didn't really get on with Uncharted, either; that game just felt like I was the world's worst stunt man frustrating a director who kept shouting at me to "GO BACK, DO IT AGAIN, DO IT RIGHT THIS TIME." If you could do exactly what the game wanted of you it looked good, but I never really felt like I was playing, only doing as I was told. I think it's mostly just because I'm crap with DualShock controllers though. 360 pad till I die! (or get an Xbox One pad for my PC)
JRowley Posted January 8, 2015 Posted January 8, 2015 The Last of Us isn't a particularly good shooter in terms of mechanics, the controls are clunky at best. It's been overhyped to oblivion almost entirely due to its storyline, atmosphere and music. If you look past all that and focus on the mechanics then it's just an average third person shooter, so not a particularly good game. Probably would have made a good film though.

(or get an Xbox One pad for my PC) I'd be honest and say I always thought the analogue sticks on XBox were in completely the wrong place which is why I've always preferred DualShock, however... I bought a wired 360 controller for my emulation rig and I must say it feels a lot better than, dare I say it, even the DualShock 4! The buttons all feel a lot more responsive, there's a definite click/action to them. And the triggers... But, I'm willing to just put it down to being a new controller out of the cellophane. The xbox controller feels better than the playstation controller because of the analogue and d-pad being swapped around. Generally accepted fact. But Sony couldn't do it. Even though consumers prefer it, if they did it, they'd be sued by Microsoft.

For that reason I prefer the "look" of the PS3 controller to that of the XBox360 (old school!). In use I don't feel one is harder to use than t'other (though the default button mapping for the XBC in some PC games seems "odd" to me) but the Xbox controller does feel more solid and a seems to fit my mitts better.
