Sunnyknight Posted December 28, 2014 Posted December 28, 2014 So, which Path have you chosen in E.D? Trader? Bounty hunter? PVPer? First two? All three? Currently, i don't know what the heck i want to do, how about yourselves? I'm making about 158k per round trip ever 10 mins from trading, but it's boring. Then again, when i look for problematic systems (anarchy), i can't find many npcs or any distress signals for killing opposition in fed battles?? I also for some reason, struggle to kill Elite Anacondas in an overpowered (from what i've been reading) viper... So i'm unsure of what i'm doing wrong? Kite shields from 2.5km, focus PP or Drive, but they don't seem to die!? Kinda stumped on the game now, as to where i can go, or what i can do, other than fly between 2 systems trading? How'd you all feel at the mo, and your responses to the above questions? 1
ZeroHour Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 I started off doing trading to get built up but before christmas I had been killing pirates for bounties, its a bit more interesting but I will go through phases. Farming in asteroid belts with a mining laser to kill time between npcs spawns resulted in some cash which started to build up the more we farmed.
GREED Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 (edited) I've given up on mining was not yielding consistent squids so traded the refinery in for bigger cargo hold and doing supply runs. While I am out I look for any signals and have a look round usually to kill a pirate being attached by feds... then run before they turn on me! Look at missions available where I am going too, basically maximising each trip. All with the aim of building up my ship. Got my eyes on a federal dropship ;-) i think that is the one where you it can house a fighter in an internal bay... what is not to like there!!!! Once I have that I will set course for anywhere and keep going and killing everything in sight! Edited December 29, 2014 by GREED
FragglePete Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 Been grinding slowly doing trading but there is only so much you can carry in a sidewinder and not much cash. Built up to around 60,000cr so have parked the sidewinder and having a play with the Eagle and doing a few more missions which is yielding a bit more cash. Killed a couple of wanted NPC s with this but I'm going to build it up a bit more and go bounty hunting. Will go back to trading with a bigger ship when cash allows soon. Frustrated that I've had two Sidewinder's blown apart at Stations with expensive cargos because I didn't pay the tiny fine that I had against me. Expensive lesson on fines that one. Its fun at the moment, just love the atmospherics in the game. The feeling of loneliness in deep space during a jump is so eery. Love the creaking sounds of the hull when you hit boost. The crackling engines of the other ships make as your behind them. Really, the sound designers deserve an award for this game alone. Pete 4
pcstru Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 I started out with small trades then switched to some light bounty hunting, which proved more lucrative. I then upgraded the ship and mixed trading with bounty hunting, even tried some mining very briefly. I reigned back on the bounty hunting and concentrated on trading which took me to a type 6 and reasonable profits from runs but it does get a little dull after a while. Finally I ploughed all my money into a well equipped cobra and have gone off exploring & hunting. I'm tempted to try finding and trading some rare goods or see if I can gain some rank in the imperial navy. It is all very well done (on three screens, the stations look gorgeous) and IMO keeps to the spirit of the original but it is a little light on real depth. Perhaps we should designate an edugeek home station where we can attempt to meet up? 1
GREED Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 Need to get into the edugeek group to begin with! But sounds like a good idea. My next mission is to get a rank in the navy, I like the idea of that path
GREED Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 I now have my viper... The Eagle wasn't big or expansive enough for me. Need more money to outfit it now 1
mikeyd101 Posted December 30, 2014 Posted December 30, 2014 Just upgraded to a cobra and got cargo upto 40t, i started out by trading, then a bit of mining on beta/gamma now i'm bounty hunting. I find trading is hard with limited cargo space, you can get 10t on sidewinder if you run without shields and scanner and max out cargo space. I'm defo a bit aimless tho, just trying to build cr and ship atm. Corba feels like a slug compared to the viper. I made my way to SOL (in a eagle), as i had to check out our system. But can't decide where to go next, been thinking of trying to goto the conflicting system luluwala (or something like that) and see whats going on.
GREED Posted December 30, 2014 Posted December 30, 2014 You gotta get to Lave too at some point, for nostalgia!
Sunnyknight Posted December 30, 2014 Author Posted December 30, 2014 (edited) I made my way to zaonce... and did the rare trade route. Good money... took 1 hour to do though if not more.... its a frigging pain in the ASS. About 20 jumps both ways with fuel scoop is time consuming. I may fit out my lakon 6 with a a5 fsd to increase laden jump to 18ly. However... i have enough money to rebuy my viper... though im very hesitant. Do i go down the BH path... or do i make 1.6mil cr per hour... tune in into the next episode.... of sunny-ball-z. Also said hi to mike... who simply ignored me. ILL REMEMBER THAT MIKE. Lol Edit. Thanks to @pcstru for the link. Edited December 30, 2014 by Sunnyknight
Sunnyknight Posted December 30, 2014 Author Posted December 30, 2014 I now have my viper... The Eagle wasn't big or expansive enough for me. Need more money to outfit it now To outfit a overpowered equipped fighting machine... have about 20+ mil credits ready..... so i have been reading. Anything below... about 1 mil cr will be fine.
localzuk Posted December 30, 2014 Posted December 30, 2014 I've been doing exporation with light bounty hunting. Running an Eagle with a few upgrades - gimballed pulse lasers, better power, fuel scoop etc... Its fun. Not made a huge amount of money yet though, just enjoying flying around and discovering systems.
pcstru Posted December 31, 2014 Posted December 31, 2014 Good money... took 1 hour to do though if not more.... its a frigging pain in the ASS. About 20 jumps both ways with fuel scoop is time consuming. I may fit out my lakon 6 with a a5 fsd to increase laden jump to 18ly. It took me 3 hours to do both both ways - I made well over a million but at least a few hundred K down on the posted maximum. A much better fuel scoop would make the long run a little quicker.
GREED Posted December 31, 2014 Posted December 31, 2014 Having fun with my interdictor. Although killed a couple of times and low on credits so had to take out a loan.... need some decent credits in the bank now to protect against it!
ICTDirect_Dave Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 I started out running a few missions to build up cash and upgrade my sidewinder a little. Recently I've tended to float around Ulapalor collecting bounties in the resource sites. I've upgraded to an Adder which is a lot more fun. With upgrades I'm sporting a trio of Gimball mounted burst lasers, Kill warrant Scanner, fuel scoop, 6 cargo, plenty of fuel capacity, improved FSD, power unit and power distro. It's a lot more fun to fly than the Sidewinder and so far I've not been killed once (including time in the Sidewinder) which is nice. My only issue is that it builds up heat at a faster rate which is somewhat annoying. I'm slowly leaning down the Explorer route as i do enjoy flying around gathering data, though as yet it's not massively profitable compared to the time you spend scouting solar systems.
Sunnyknight Posted January 12, 2015 Author Posted January 12, 2015 So, i'm back on this tonight. Who's still playing? Or have you all deserted it?
pcstru Posted January 12, 2015 Posted January 12, 2015 Still playing. I should be winding my way back to Lave/Lessti later. The good old George Lucas feels like a second home.
localzuk Posted January 12, 2015 Posted January 12, 2015 Still playing. Not played for a few days though, been alternating games.
GREED Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 Had a break for a while little fed up with it... but will return soon
Sunnyknight Posted January 13, 2015 Author Posted January 13, 2015 (edited) I say we make Leesti the EDUGEEK home. Who's in favour? We can then fly together! Explore together! DIE together! Also, i made 1.3 mil in about 45 mins last night. Had to stop due to food. Will look at making about 4 - 6 mill tonight. NOT buying an asp as its chuffing expensive to kit out. Might go all out on a viper though.... Edited January 13, 2015 by Sunnyknight
GREED Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 How do you make so much... best I do in an hour, mostly through killing, is about 100k tops. I know what I need to do is find a decent trade route and note down what the good sellers are. 1
Sunnyknight Posted January 13, 2015 Author Posted January 13, 2015 How do you make so much... best I do in an hour, mostly through killing, is about 100k tops. I know what I need to do is find a decent trade route and note down what the good sellers are. The rare trade route is very... pleasing, though boring. With an a4 fsd i make a 150 jump either way in 10 mins. 15 mins for buying. When i BH i make about 400k? In an hour. I hang out around anarchy systems and resource extraction sites. I always go for unidentified sources, can prove interesting However, im no trader. Im a BH. Just want to kit out my viper with x4 plasma accelerators or x4 railguns. Decimate any opposition in under 5 secs.
GREED Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 I just find trading so hit and miss... but clearly you have to make a decent distance jump to make it work properly.
Sunnyknight Posted January 13, 2015 Author Posted January 13, 2015 (edited) I just find trading so hit and miss... but clearly you have to make a decent distance jump to make it work properly. Rare resources increase in value the further you go. You csn buy 15 ares for 300 each... and in 150ly jumps... they sell for 17k. Even further and the price increases. General trading i made 120k every 5 mins trading paladium. Sold 118tons one way... then 118 tons of domestic appliances the other. 5 mins the other way. EDIT: im tempted to travel 1000ly away with 118t of rares and see what i make.... Edited January 13, 2015 by Sunnyknight
GREED Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 See I also need more cargo holds, I think I have 8 or maybe 12 in my Viper currently.
