Exchange 2010 - new domain name

Hi, next year our school is changing it's name. We are registering a new domain name for our website / VLE / Exchange 2010 server & getting new SSL certs.

 

For a couple of months both the old & the new domain names will exist and will point at the same IP addresses.

 

Once I've installed the new SSL cert on the Exchange 2010 server, I think I need to make some configuration changes to it so that it will accept email sent to the new domain name. I know I'll definitely need to add the new domain to:

 

Organization Configuration -> Hub Transport -> Accepted Domains

 

What else will I need to do?

Can I force Exchange to accept incoming email to the old domain name but make all outgoing email have the new domain name as the address?

You can keep both old and new on exchange and as long as you keep your old domain mail will come into the same inboxes as the new. You setup a policy to give your users email addresses, when you add the new domain to received change this policy to give users the new domain and set it as default and keep the old ones in place and users will be able to keep going off the old one as well as the new one.

 

It's a very simple change no need to worry or make users worry.
