Program to monitor program content!

I am finding this difficult to search on the internet because its not easy to explain!

 

I'm looking for an application/program that can run in the background on my PC, that monitors text in another program/application and if a change is detected, performs an action such as show an alert, send an email or play a sound.

 

Anyone heard of such a thing?

I'd doubt such thing exists because it's very specific.

 

You may need to provide more information about what the other program/application is, and what the change would be.

Well for example, I have the Print Manager open. It's a MS built in program.

For example, if the printer displays 'out of toner', an action would take place!

If the printer supports SNMP you could monitor toner levels via PRTG or Observium.

 

You could probably do what you want using an AutoIt or AutoHotkey script.

Not cheap, but Impero can do this.

Impero (whilst great) wouldn't monitor for general changes like that, it detects keywords typed in... it sounds like @jamwatn's looking for something to monitor changes made in other ways to documents etc.

 

If you're just looking at Server / Printer status then something like Spiceworks or The Dude may do...
