Help with FMS Database Restore

Hi,

 

I need help restoring just FMS database.

We have 2 FMS databases. One is an old back predated to 2012 which is no longer used. Whenever we log onto FMS, it's bringing up data from 2012 as if it's like reading off the old database even though it's selecting the right company and database now.

 

Any idea's on how to sort this problem out please?

 

I've got a backup from last night which I can go back to but I've never done a restore. Last thing I want to do is mess up SIMS as well because SIMS itself is working fine. Just FMS that's showing old data.

I'm not 100% that you need a database restore as I suspect you have a configuration issue somewhere, but if you do:

 

FMS is an indepedent database. You can restore it without affecting SIMS.

 

If your backups are run as an SQL script, the restore is ridiculously easy in SQL Management Studio - you can just pick the restore point and it'll use the particular file to go back. My own scripts moves the backup file off the server to a NAS, so I just put it back then run the restore through the GUI. If yours is in the default location you won't need to do this.

 

Open SQL Managament Studio

Open Databases

Right-click on ccsfms->Tasks->Restore

Choose the date with the timeline button

OK

 

Note - you'll lose any changes since that point, obviously. This method only works if you use the native SQL system for backing it up in the first place.

Just be careful with this, as finance data is sacred, particularly for audit purposes.

Also there are caveats with FMS, if you link it to payroll, staffing etc. then SIMS and FMS must be kept in sync so be very careful with independent restores.

Worth checking with your support team that what you've done is ok.
