ICT_GUY Posted December 1, 2014 Posted December 1, 2014 We have just had new 70" Active panel displays put in our school. We seem to have an issue where the cursor \ pen lags by at least 1/10th of a second behind where the teacher is writing. We did not have this issue with the interactive whiteboards before and it is very noticeable and causing issue when writing on the board. Is this normal? Is there anything we can do to speed things up? PC has 4 gigs of ram and a dual core processor running 64 windows 7
synaesthesia Posted December 1, 2014 Posted December 1, 2014 What processor though? Plenty of dual core atoms about that can barely run Notepad without struggling! Run a 65" activpanel on a quad core Atom machine (eeepc) and that does have noticable latency, although usable.
ZeroHour Posted December 1, 2014 Posted December 1, 2014 Do you run any screen monitoring software such as ABTutor? Mirror drivers can cause performance issues on lower end hardware so it may be worth having a look in device manager.
achedgy Posted December 1, 2014 Posted December 1, 2014 This seems to be normal for promethean screens. Got them in 3x schools I look after and they all do it.... 1
witch Posted December 1, 2014 Posted December 1, 2014 This seems to be normal for promethean screens. Got them in 3x schools I look after and they all do it.... Mine don't - we have them ranging from 6 months to 3 years old 1
achedgy Posted December 1, 2014 Posted December 1, 2014 Interesting... I've got 26x of them across 3x schools, running a range of software versions and a wide range of hardware from Core 2 duo to i5, XP and Windows 7, every single one of them does this.... It's not huge, but definitely noticeable - - - Updated - - - Mine are all under 6 months old, new variant perhaps??? 1
ICT_GUY Posted December 1, 2014 Author Posted December 1, 2014 Pentium g630 2.7GHz 8 gigs of ram. I tried it on a Laptop with nothing apart from the active software installed and it's just as bad. No mirroring software is installed. The pen point as you drag your finger across the screen is lagging about 5cm behind. Handwriting is problematic and teachers are complaining. This is most troublesome considering how much these screens cost. :-/
witch Posted December 1, 2014 Posted December 1, 2014 I would ring the manufacturer/supplier/installer for help. They are under warranty, aren't they? 1
ICT_GUY Posted December 1, 2014 Author Posted December 1, 2014 This is how hand writing is coming out. This is a teachers effort whose handwriting is pretty decent.
synaesthesia Posted December 1, 2014 Posted December 1, 2014 Assume it's the same when not using activstudio/primary? (i.e. paint) 1
achedgy Posted December 1, 2014 Posted December 1, 2014 Makes no difference whether using activinspire or other software, but activinspire is where it is noticed the most.... 1
ICT_GUY Posted December 2, 2014 Author Posted December 2, 2014 Assume it's the same when not using activstudio/primary? (i.e. paint) Nope, it just seems to be very laggy. It also seems way less precise than the old boards. At £3k I am pretty disappointed so far :-/
ICT_GUY Posted December 2, 2014 Author Posted December 2, 2014 Just tested with MS paint and we have none of the issues that the promethean software has. Writing is smooth and responsive.
ICT_GUY Posted December 9, 2014 Author Posted December 9, 2014 We are still having this problem. This is across two sites on the latest software. The issue can be seen in the picture fairly clearly. It even occurred on the Hugh Symons trainers laptop. We are also having an issue with two pages turning over instead of one when clicked. Any ideas?
synaesthesia Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 Noticed something similar at one site; does it make any difference also if you try running the software in ActivStudio mode rather than ActivPrimary?
ICT_GUY Posted December 10, 2014 Author Posted December 10, 2014 Nope, both just as bad. In fact the above was in active studio mode. Most use the primary. :-/
