Heebeejeebee Posted November 27, 2007 Posted November 27, 2007 Watch out for the post that goes along the lines of: 'I have the same problem and I used such and such - it's really great' etc. HBJB
Dos_Box Posted November 27, 2007 Posted November 27, 2007 Me, the 13th duke of Wimbourne, alone, in the IT news section, with MY reputation. What were they thinking!! Agreed with the others. This looks fishy.
maniac Posted November 27, 2007 Posted November 27, 2007 Talking of these sort of things, anyone noticed a msssive influx of spam recently, and not just on this site. I received over 700 junked e-mails today, my normal amount is around 200 per day, my main email address is old, and on a lot of lists unfortunitely Mike.
Oops_my_bad Posted November 27, 2007 Posted November 27, 2007 Aye t'is the christmas rush, all the married men are home for xmas and desperately need viagra to keep the missus happy and the turkey basted (and no I'm not speaking from experience before anyone asks)

Joedetic Posted November 28, 2007 Posted November 28, 2007 My spam's not really been increasing to be honest. I seem to be maintaining a constant stream throughout the year. The annoying thing is that anywhere you look on the internet and see Joedetic, it's 99.9999% likely to be me (who else would have a stupid nick like that), so when the e-mails refer to me as Joedetic I can't work out which site has sold me up the stream for spam because they're all using Joedetic
localzuk Posted November 28, 2007 Posted November 28, 2007 Talking of these sort of things, anyone noticed a msssive influx of spam recently, and not just on this site. I received over 700 junked e-mails today, my normal amount is around 200 per day, my main email address is old, and on a lot of lists unfortunately Mike. I used to use my own domain/email and used the same address for everything and at its peak I was receiving 10 normal emails a day and 1000 spam ones. So I decided that the best way of doing things was to use my main email address for only reputable sites and to use throw away addresses on other ones. Personally, I would say my main address's spam amount has gone down recently - from about 50 a day to about 30.
russdev Posted November 28, 2007 Posted November 28, 2007 Not sure but he is a spammer as from same ip we had Susan who did same thing with movies and music.. Russell
Joanne Posted November 28, 2007 Posted November 28, 2007 I hardly get spam on my hotmail anymore... had it for 8 years!! I just 'unsubscribe' to the crap they send! Or put the address on block if they are persistent.
Heebeejeebee Posted November 28, 2007 Posted November 28, 2007 I hardly get spam on my hotmail anymore... had it for 8 years!! I just 'unsubscribe' to the crap they send! Or put the address on block if they are persistent. Wow - my Hotmail is a spam-fest account and only a small portion gets picked up by the filters but my Gmail one does a good job of picking up all the unwanted mail and dumping it in the spam folder. Why does one filter work well and not the other? HBJB
Joanne Posted November 29, 2007 Posted November 29, 2007 who knows? Do you not think that you shouldn't be getting the spam in the first place though?
Heebeejeebee Posted November 29, 2007 Posted November 29, 2007 who knows? Do you not think that you shouldn't be getting the spam in the first place though? True - but I'm a realist. If there are tossers out there that send unsolicited emails relentlessly I want to be able to stop them with an effective filter. HBJB
Joanne Posted November 29, 2007 Posted November 29, 2007 it appears that every time i got a spammed message i blocked the sender. So i have a long list of blocked contacts! Yay.
ICT_GUY Posted November 29, 2007 Posted November 29, 2007 http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=%22get+anything+good+that+suites+my+purpose%22+&hl=en&filter=0 Just to confirm what everyone else has worked out.
enjay Posted November 29, 2007 Posted November 29, 2007 I agree with HBJB that GMail's spam filter is very good - I have very little spam make it to my Inbox and even less genuine email getting flagged as spam. Even when real emails do get junked, 99.9% of them are ones sent to my Yahoo address which routes to my GMail, so I guess the filter has identified that I'm not the listed recipient. As for all the mailing lists out there, a good thing to do is buy your own domain - now I have an endless number of throwaway email addresses so have one for each site I use ([email protected] or whatever), so if an address gets on a spammer's list, I just need to change one address on one website.
Joanne Posted November 29, 2007 Posted November 29, 2007 i think you can get paid to spam forums you know...
