GRitchie Posted November 27, 2014 Posted November 27, 2014 Hi, I'm fairly confident with Access and how to setup databases/designs, however I've been given the task of creating a job logging database for our site team. Obviously this will be in a shared file location so multiple users will want this open at a time. I'm not entirely sure how I can make this work? I would presume using Microsoft SQL server or something? I COULD do it within VisualStudio, but I feel it will be much easier in access if possible! I will be creating this in Office 2013, but it will be being opened on 2010/2013. I presume there will be compatibility options? Please could anyone advise? Thanks!

Can you not just install one of the many excellent helpdesk solutions available, many are free? Hm, I get what you're saying... We already have Spiceworks for our IT Helpdesk - I wouldn't need something as high end as this, any suggestions of a really basic, easy to use, system? Oh, and free!
LosOjos Posted November 27, 2014 Posted November 27, 2014 I've used Liberum for ages, it's free, open source, supports AD integration and you can use either an SQL or Access DB for the backend Liberum Help Desk (Although the site seems to be down right now!)
3s-gtech Posted November 27, 2014 Posted November 27, 2014 Well, we use Spiceworks alongside a fairly simple PHP/MySQL web based helpdesk. If you want to make one, that's certainly the platform I'd use - nothing more than a browser needed to access it. Perhaps something like Help Desk Software HESK - a free PHP help desk if you want pre-built.
Marci Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 Hesk's my default go-to for any simple helpdesk requirements. We use it for Data, Premises & Health/Safety helpdesks. Our IT Support dept use GLPI however due to it's more comprehensive asset management and auditing facilities.
