Given a group of users access to a shared resource

I'm trying to find a solution which on the face of it is probably very straight forward but for me being a server newbie isn't quite so straight forward.

I currently have 3 groups of staff users; Teachers,Admin and Support and they see their relevant shares when logged on.

The support group contains mostly LSA's and they need to be able to access the Teacher resource drive.

I did do this with part success, I added the Support group to the Teacher Group and they had access to the resources, but then they also received email that were sent to the Teachingstaff email group...bad mistake, so I took them out again (quickly).

Our Network was set up in the summer by an outside company and I can easily ask them to do it for me, but they will charge the school, hence I'd like to do it my self.

Can any one offer me a suggestion on how to do it?

I would have done what you did but I am confused as to how the email is set up to somehow link in to the groups. Is it exchange? On-site?

If it's an internal drive, you need to make an LSA group in AD, add the LSA users to it and set the drive mapping GPO for the resources drive to map for that group as well.

It sounds like the outside company has set the security group to be a distribution list as well. This is fine until you try and do things like this or vice versa, need someone to be ont eh mail list but not get their security settings!

As X-13 has said you need to add the Support group to the GPO. It will more than likely be under the Common tab in Item Level Targeting

Thanks all...I kind of assumed GPO would be the answer, I hate GPO's, still waiting on training, I'll take a look and see if it's doable with out mucking it all up.

GPO is easy.

 

I haven't had training on it and I'm okay with it.
