iPad or other Tablet Devices

Hi All,

 

I work for an independent school and we have a large BOYD network with AC Wireless. There have been some discussions around the introduction of sets of iPads or similar devices to introduce a standard teaching device. There has also been talk of one iPad per pupil, have any of you done similar with positive/negative effects?

 

Is the iPad the best tool or should it be something different, or should we continue with the array of devices currently used via BOYD?

 

Apps wise we have a survey going on at the moment to determine what possible uses we need to cater for, and of course this will determine the device(s).

 

Just your experiences will give me an opportunity to inform the management team of some good/bad examples.

Depends if an iPad will fulfill the role that you require. Will it support all of the required tools, applications and software/hardware for the job?

 

For us, Windows tablets were more useful because of SIMS, shared drives, Flash support etc, but your usage may be very different.

I do think a Windows Tablet might be the option - currently trialing a Surface 3 Pro. The teaching body are keen on iPads for their Apps, but wonder if there are other problems surrounding pushing everyone to the same device when we're geared up for BYOD.

Loving my Learnpads at the moment. I have never come across such an easy to deploy or manage device!

 

Log onto web console and put in wireless config, proxy + other site details. Print out sheet of auto-generated QR codes, turn on device and scan each in turn. Bingo, give device to teacher. Check out reports from others on here. To early to have detailed feedback from our teachers, but good initial impressions.

 

BTW, Android based, so essentially can do anything an android tablet can.

 

For teacher devices I would be tempted by a surface pro.
