Just been asked a cracker of a question, and a good idea that I'd like to be able to help with.

We'd like to send scheduled messages in the form of a popup to teacher computers (we could do this even to all computers, but just teachers would be nicer) at set times of the day. This is to remind people 5 minutes prior to lesson change to allow extra time for students that have to cross between our 2 sites.

I can't see that this is doable with Impero unfortunately as that would easily be the most ideal solution. Any cunning plans out there?

Example:

msg /server:its-001 * "hai, you has 5 mins left"

Obviously just need to put the teachers pcs in a script, or if you want to go snazzy do AD lookup on group etc but for basics.

I'm curious how to do this without Impero. I'll take a look into MSG later :)

Select the group of machines in Impero that you want to send a message to, right click and select 'Advanced System Policy'

From the menu at the top of Advanced System Policy select 'Add' and then select 'Action Policy' Give your new policy a name.

When you have created your new action policy you need to add a policy item. In the right hand pan it says 'Click here to add new policy item'

Select 'Send msg' and write the message.

Once that is done you can enable scheduling for the new task and edit when the message will be sent to those stations in that group.

Each box defines an interval of one hour. Selecting a box allows you to select/deselect green dots that themselves represent 5 minute intervals. A green dot shows that the full hour has been selected while a brown dot shows that one or more 5 minute interval has been deselected.

Then that's it you have an Impero scheduled task to message your computers.

He did say without impero ;) That's exactly what I've done.

:embarassed: I was interrupted while reading his reply and as a result I didn't read it correctly.

A bump. We're trying to do something similar to alert people to vacate the premises before the alarm is set. I've noticed you can actually schedule a task to send a message in the GPMC. I've set it up on our all workstations GPO but it from first look it doesn't appear to be going through. Any thoughts as to why? Scratching my head for sure!
