sparkeh Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 Well here we are again, another no-show from Yodel. Yesterday we were expecting our TiVo box to be delivered from Virgin. We selected the only date that suited us for the next few weeks as my wife was at home all day. Its not ideal for her to have to stay in all day but it was needed. They told us that it would be delivered via Yodel between 7am-9pm. My heart sank and I joked with the Virgin guy that it probably wouldn't show up... We got the text at 7am that the parcel was out for delivery so I had a glimmer of hope. My wife waited in...I checked the online tracker...my wife waited...I checked...wait, check, wait, check but no delivery and no status update until 6.30pm when the tracker informed us that there was a delay at 9am! They didn't bother to tell us at 9am that there was a delay, no no, lets wait 91/2 hours before informing your customers that there might be a problem. Then at 8.30pm we were told that the parcel was back at the depot!! What a waste of a day. Given that there is no one at home today I though it was a good idea to rearrange the delivery for a more suitable time or go and pick it up myself but no! you can't actually do that until they have tried to deliver it, even though I can tell them there's no point! Arrrrggghhh!!! So some recommendations/questions that will be sent to Yodel: If there is a delay tell the customers there and then so they aren't sitting around like lemons all day. If your delivery times are stated as 7am-9pm why is your driver knocking off at 8.30pm? If you fail to deliver a parcel, at least let us arrange a different delivery time or allow us to collect ourselves without you having made an attempt first, I can tell you that you are wasting your time, just listen to me. The above will doubtless be ignored as usual...
sted Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 have a rant on them on twitter they often respond and seem to be able to actually try and help 1

Drone :"Yes it has" Me: "Arrrrggggghhhh!"

GREED Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 I am so shocked that such a poor poor company still operates... oh wait it does because they are dirt cheap for Amazon and everyone else... bigger profits at the expense of customer service nothing new there 1
Garacesh Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 (edited) I am so shocked that such a poor poor company still operates... oh wait it does because they are dirt cheap for Amazon and everyone else... bigger profits at the expense of customer service nothing new there I think this stems from the fact that people - in general - seem to want to pay bare minimum-to-nothing for delivery. There's a prevailing attitude of "I've paid you for your product, you're making profit on your product, why not put some of that profit into delivery instead of charging me extra?" (though people seem to ignore that when that does happen, price of the product rises a-la eBay forcing free delivery on certain items) Whilst this attitude exists, companies like YODEL and Hermes will continue to exist. Their service is pee-poor, but because it's cheap companies can offer free delivery. I personally don't mind paying a reasonable charge for delivery - in fact I'd even pay to not use YODEL. However each person's definition of reasonable is different admittedly. Edited November 20, 2014 by Garacesh

I kind of see where your coming from i do hate paying delivery but its not so much they are making profit on stuff that anoys me its that i have to pay delivery why not make it part of the price and say knock cash off if you bulk order stuff from them?
mikecain Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 I waited in once for a delivery, the bloke ran up the drive , shoved a thing trough the door, one of those attempted delivery things, and drove off, I went to catch him, but he was already away by the time I got outside. Never knocked or anything.
EdWhittaker Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 My wife has stuff delivered to school as we're both out all day. The address is clearly 'at XXXXXX High School' yet last week Yodel tried to deliver a parcel twice; once at 8:30 pm and again at 10:30 Saturday morning! Doh!
Garacesh Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 Just Tweet them on @YodelOnline @YodelOnline - Sort. Yo. S:censored:t. Out. That is all.
EdWhittaker Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 Got delivered in the end after wife called Yodel and asked them to point out the bleedin' obvious to the driver - which, to be fair, they did - so got it last Monday (Just in time for my birthday, which was nice :-)
PotNoodleTech Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 My Virgin Guy brought my Tivo box etc with him!
sparkeh Posted November 20, 2014 Author Posted November 20, 2014 My Virgin Guy brought my Tivo box etc with him! Yeah I went for the cheapo self install rather than the expensive VM engineer install option...
LiamH Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 I learnt a trick for parcel delivery where they give you an entire day window, Just pop in the shower and sods law will take over making them arrive. 3
sparkeh Posted November 20, 2014 Author Posted November 20, 2014 **Status update** "Parcel delivered to neighbour" I'll reserve judgement until I physically have it in my hands (neighbours said they wouldn't be in today) but looking more promising
eyetea Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 **Status update** "Parcel delivered to neighbour" I'll reserve judgement until I physically have it in my hands (neighbours said they wouldn't be in today) but looking more promising Another courier story... Parcelforce this time! Attempted delivery, card through door. Nearest depot +40mins away, option to delivery to local post office for a quid. I ring up go through automated system, doesn't list any post offices but still tells me to choose one! I start mashing buttons and finally I get through to a lady, an actual living human being! Talk to her, she arranges it to be delivered to the nearest post office, so I'm happy and expecting to pop there in the next 2 days. Get home the next day, my neighbour dings on the bell and lo and behold they've delivered it to him.. after speaking to an actual person that's told me it's going to the post office!
HarryMonkey Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 I ordered a backpack from Amazon some time ago, I've just queried where it is and despite them saying it would be sent by Royal Mail, it was sent by Yodel who say they left it in the porch. That's all well and good except I don't have a porch. There is however, an entrance hall for 12 flats!! I'm waiting for the seller to get back to me, I don't expect a happy outcome.
GREED Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 One of the biggest issues I think is the fact that many of the delivering people are on pay-by-delivery contracts, using their own vehicles and what not. So they are time precious (unlike in most cases ParcelForce/Royal Mail), so they don't give a crapola just want to get rid of your package. My local postie is great he knows me and the area, and he knows its fine to leave the package with neighbor either side but not one chap down the road, and can also put it in my green bin sometimes, but not on a collection day.... UNLIKE YODAL!!! 1

Do you have a notice / slip saying it was left in the porch? Take pics of said "porch" and send them to the vendor, explaining that it's the entrance to 12 flats and completely unsecure and that you never received your package. Surely they will then obliged to send another one - I'm sure they can recoup the cost from Yodel as they left it in an unsecure location?
sparkeh Posted November 20, 2014 Author Posted November 20, 2014 Just wanted to post a positive experience as well Recently had a few deliveries from Interlink Express and they have been excellent. The realtime tracking is awesome as you get a little van on a map driving toward your house with driver details, what deliver number you are and what delivery number is currently being made

I agree with this, I think if you get a person in a car the service seems a lot worse than a if you get a person in a company van My local postie is great he knows me and the area, and he knows its fine to leave the package with neighbor either side but not one chap down the road, and can also put it in my green bin sometimes, but not on a collection day.... UNLIKE YODAL!!! Haven't heard of that one before! Did it get recycled or were you lucky!!!
