beany1 Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 Morning all, I'm currently looking to purchase AB Tutor, but have been warned that as AB Tutor doesn't use client/server that broadcasts cause really bad speed issues? Is this the case? Or is this the the false warnings of a sales man? We're a primary school without VLANs. Every day we would just have ICT suite with 1 tutor. At the most we would have ICT Suite with 1 tutor, trolley laptops with 1 tutor, and nursery suite with 1 tutor. Would this cause major problems?
localzuk Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 We've been using it for about 7 years now, and we've never had any speed issues with broadcast. I'd say that you'd only really notice it if you had hundreds of machines all broadcasting at the same time or something. 1
hallb15 Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 Same here. We've never had any noticeable speed issues with ABTutor. I got it a few years ago after having various problems with SmartSync. We haven't looked back since! 1
beany1 Posted November 18, 2014 Author Posted November 18, 2014 Thanks localzuk, hallb15! I think the man from Impero was just trying to scare me!
hallb15 Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 Thanks localzuk, hallb15! I think the man from Impero was just trying to scare me! I've never had any dealings with Impero but there was a thread on here a while back about their sales techniques http://www.edugeek.net/forums/behind-red-door/129802-high-pressure-sales.html Why not get the free trial of ABTutor, install it in your ICT Suite and monitor your systems for any speed/performance drops. 1
TechSupp Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 Been using AB Tutor here for about 2 years now and no problems with speed, been really good. Few niggles setting up with DNS but 'reading the manual' and speaking to their tech support sorted that out. We have two masters set up, one in the suite monitoring that and one on my tech machine looking at every PC. Like you we are a primary and for the cost you cant go much wrong. Like said have a free trail first, thats what we did. 1
beany1 Posted November 18, 2014 Author Posted November 18, 2014 Yeah had the free trial, been running for the full 30 days, not noticed anything!! Was worried I was missing something!
russdev Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 As previously commented we have done a lot of work to make sure our sales staff are re-educated on number of issues and also hiring new head of sales. Talking to people they have seen a big improvement. So last comment of "trying to scare me" concerns me So I have PM'd the user directly to get some details so we like to deal with anything like this straight away.
beany1 Posted November 19, 2014 Author Posted November 19, 2014 Not here to get anyone into trouble. Came for impartial advice from other people in similar roles to myself.
russdev Posted November 19, 2014 Posted November 19, 2014 (edited) Not here to get anyone into trouble. Came for impartial advice from other people in similar roles to myself. Don't worry will not get anyone into 'trouble' as goes against impero culture to blame and tell people off as it doesn't do anyone any good. We just need to make sure sales staff have correct information as they may have honestly thought that. If this is case need to make sure training is correct etc. Russell Edited November 19, 2014 by russdev
