Windows Linx Tablet - Viable alternative to netbook?

Hi, wondering if anyone can help me, ive got the 10" version. I cant get it to boot into desktop. It boots but loads "preparing automatic recovery" and then freezes on a blue screen with 2 rectangular boxes.

 

Is there a way I cant get it to boot in to recovery for me to reinstall?

 

Or maybe a clean install, what would the procedure be.

 

Would kindly appreciate any help.

Hi All,I've purchase an educational version of the Linx 10 and I've been trying for ages to get this damn thing to boot to USB so I can install our own version of Windows 8.1 on it. IT detects & sees whatever (I've tried Linux booting, Acronis booting, Window PE & Windows 8.1 on USB using Rufus) pen drive I use but simply does not boot to it. It flashes and then simply boots the current Windows drive...Any directions would be great. I'm sure I'm missing something obvious - I've played with the BIOS as well to no avail...CheersStephen

its easier ive found to upgrade tablets to windows enterprise by booting them up as they come to windows 8.1 std then running it like you would an upgrade but select the keep nothing option (from a pen drive) in theory you could start mdt/sccm from in windows as well but ive not tried it. Saves spendind ages wondering why you cant get them to usb/pxe boot

sounds like a plan but I want to completely destroy the existing partitions.The funny thing is, in the BIOS it detects the drive & I can select it to boot from (I disable all other options) and the damn thing still boots into the installed image!I also wanted to take a system image to restore if I ever need to, but I cant get the recovery media to ever boot either to test the images I have with Acronis

I used the Microsoft Windows 7 USB DVD download tool to write an 8.1 ISO to a USB. The instructions from post #23 seemed to work for me.

School Boy Error Im afraid... 64Bit capable processor, 32Bit only BIOS... 32Bit version of windows on a UEFI bootable pen drive needed all sorted now.

To enter the BIOS hold down delete on boot (plug in keyboard obvs )

Got my replacment earlier this week so rather then doing anything fancy I just connected it to the domain, set up a few Group Policies and played for 2 days - have to say I'm very impressed.

 

Had promised some other staff a go before Christmas so have had to give it up for a few weeks now, however I really really like it!

Question for others who have them - have you found any other cases with keyboards that are compatible?

 

While the origami case is good, the keyboard I'm not a fan of and neither is the person I've leant it too, so curious if anyone else has any other case options?

Has anybody got one running with the sccm client? Just wondering if it hits performance. Shame some of the drivers are unsigned.

@free780 yes but only got it imaged yesterday. No noticeable effect yet.

 

Wish i'd read Stephen hardy's post closer. Was trying to put a 64bit image on lol... It appears with uefi you have to apply the same bit OS.

I suspect cortana wont get to windows 8 it will be a reason to upgrade to 10

I really doubt Cortana will be added to W8.

I'll wait for a Windows 10 variant then. That's coming soon and I can't see MS snubbing a tablet with their new OS.

What are these things like for using as a tablet? I mean the 10 inch one now. Would they only be suitable for use as a netbook or are they OK to use as a tablet too?

I was using mine for about an hour this morning as a tablet while someone was remoted in to my main machine and it wasn't an issue.

They don't wear well, mine keeps dropping the wireless (when everything else manages fine) - just can't see a single AP even though wifi card is working - have to reboot. Also, two different chargers and it won't CHARGE while being used - just stays the same %age. The battery life is also shocking.

 

Going to try the HP Stream 7 next.

Been looking at this - testing.

 

Seems a bit slow to me, installed a few bits - took longer than I was expecting. Still a bit unsure on Windows 8.1, currently our system is 99% Windows 7 with a Vista sitting down ADMIN.

 

I think I would prefer to upgrade our system to 8.1 before I get devices with it on, we attempted Android Tablets and although initially a success, even though we pre-empt a lot it still caused issues with some Staff.

We got one this week for our site team to play with (mainly for the camera and something to run office) and we've noticed that it's dropped the wifi a couple of times, but for the price it will do the job.

 

Charging wise, it was easier to use the mains instead of the PC as it was just doing a slow charge via the old USB 1 sockets on that computer.

Mine isn't interested either way haha! I won't be buying anymore, will look at the HP Streams' next I think

I had one out with a teacher which does now seem to have died (the tablet, not the teacher).
